• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I could sure use some prayer these days. I have been struggling with clinical depression, the likes of which I have not seen in my life. I am managing to get to work, both jobs, and push myself to not isolate.

My psychiatrist has increased two of my three medications.

I finally got a new AA sponsor, just this evening. I sure hope I do not have a repeat of my last sponsor.

I just need prayer to get through this dark period in my life.

Thanks,
Trish

I went through a period of depression some time ago, but I don't want to claim that my depression was a severe as yours. For me exercise helped a lot. I also turned to the 10th step instructions, when a friend helped me realize that depression is an extreme form of self pity.

"On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives." (Pg 86)

I found praying to be divorced from self pity, along with counseling and exercise helped a lot.

I hope my prayers for you also help.

Thank you for your prayers. My psychiatrist explained to me that my depression is based on my brain chemistry, which has nothing to do with self-pity. With my bipolar disorder, and the change of the seasons, I am experiencing what many of his other bipolar patients are experiencing this time of year. I am also experiencing severe body aches, which are also from the depression. All of this is brain chemistry stuff, so I am working hard at making sure I am compliant with my medications and doing all that I need to do with my self-care.

Thanks again.

Trish
