  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'll add in short that from the christian perspective I believe we feel that God gives us our desires. My desire for sex is a desire given to me by God. My desires for sex outside the confines of marriage are my own desires that are a perversion of the desire God gave me.

Trying to isolate one sort of desire outside of the way it is meant to be is generally considered wrong in christianity. It's like trying to isolate the taste of food from actually eating meals by eating and then throwing the food back up.

To make this as brief as possible:
Some desires are good--for good things, with good motives, etc.
Some desires are bad--for bad things, with bad motives, etc.
To have a desire is not sinful. To dwell on a "bad" desire, feeding it, making it stronger, or of course to act on it, is a sin.
