Hi,

I saw there was a book out that was an updated version of this book, at least I think it was this one. I can not remember who wrote it or the tile (I think it was named Messiah no sure) would anyone per chance know?

Do you mean 'The Desire of Ages' by Ellen White? I have not heard of it being reprinted under a different name but maybe someone else has heard of this....

Arguably, the best book ever written on the life of Christ and His ministry. If you have not read it yet, please do so, you will be abundantly blessed.

Christseeker45,

You paid way too much. Stick with Scripture.

Ever read the book? Have you every read a spiritual book written by a leader of a denomination eg: Billy Graham, etc ?

Maybe you don't realize that this particular book has been cited by the library of Congress as being the best narrative on Christs life ever written.

I have read Desire of Ages, Great Controversy, Steps to Christ, most of the Testimonies and various other EGW writings. I was an Adventist for 27 years, spouse was a lifelong Adventist (50 years) and was employed by the SDA church. So, I don't speak from ignorance regarding Adventism/EGW. If sticking with scripture makes one ignorant, then I am guilty as charged.

I haven't read any of Billy Graham's books.

The LOC story is another one of the Adventist myths. The LOC does not endorse books. Adventists do love to talk about themselves, I gotta give 'em that.

There's only one problem with your hypothesis. Just sticking to the Bible has led to the mess we are in in Christendom, everyone interprets how they want. If you don't like what someone says than start your own church because after all you stuck with just the Bible.

There is no such animal as "just stick with the Bible" everyone uses something else. Catholics and Orthodox are honest they admit they use Tradition, but Protestants oh no they say we use the Bible alone. Yet they don't, they have to figure just what the Bible is saying. Everyone uses something else, some are more forward about it

Having a knowledge of something doesn't mean you are not ignorant in regards to that subject. I've spoken with Atheists who have read the bible from cover to cover more than I have, and yet they still don't believe. So saying what you've read is not proof of having a proper understanding of it.

EGW points to the scriptures. Her words glorify God. They also point out sin that is cherished more so than not, and because some have a problem dealing with that, they push her writings away. The thing is that either all she said was given by God, or none of it was. Either she was an advocate for Christ, or an agent of the adversary.

The biggest problem really is that many protestants still hold to traditions instituted by the RCC. However they won't admit to that so they try to find some passage of scripture that agrees with their belief. This is done by taking one text at the expense of excluding another. This of course leads to confusion and thus the reason why many people split into separate denominations.

Everyone wants to be right and no one wants to be wrong. Were the bible used properly, it would be the only thing needed. However because it isn't and hasn't been, God saw fit to use a frail girl to bring people back to the clear word and straight truths of the scripture.

Amen.

OTOH, If the cause of the critics was so true and right, then why do they have to lie about her 215 times now?

It's easier to spread a lie then to admit their own fault, and accept what is true. Accepting Ellen as a messenger would bring about a fundamental change in the lives of many people that they simply aren't willing to accept.

What is the LOC myth? Have not heard of that one.

Foofighter maybe you could enlighten us as to your issues with the SDA. I'm sensing a personal problem with certain members of your congregation?

Hmm?

Tell me you didn't spend 27 years of your life because you thought they were scripturally incorrect, and if so why do you find yourself here in the Adventist section of the forum?

From my experience, most individuals who spent their life in the SDA church, who then abandon it do so for one of the following reasons:

- Personal issues with members
- Unwillingness to submit to certain teachings (abstinence from Alcohol, being the remnant church, etc)
- Acceptance of unbiblical teachings due to relationships with individuals from different denominations.

Usually most people fall into one of those categories. Most times they fit all of them.
