  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all. This one is pretty depressing, about a young woman kidnapped and coerced to deny her faith. Although the woman managed to escape, her story details a rather shocking trend toward greater and greater persecution of radical Christianity in the name of respectability. I'd like to hear what others think of this.

I would like to know what church group this girl was kidnapped from, when this happened and by whom?

Putting your title into Google only brings up the Sacco branch davidians, nothing more recent.
So details please?

I think this young ladies faith is what we all need. Jesus knew we'd destroy the world with money. We need America to truly repent and accept we've all served money whether we were aware or brainwashed or not. I imagine a group of us shouting STOP THE GREED, there's REAL NEED the root of ALL evil(sin). Ha, so eliminate money sin goes away? How could we LIVE without money? I'll leave it here. Got that line from a very respectable older man who goes by A Voice in the desert. That video will link you to so much truth! God bless!

Seems like a cult to me...

Tiny little enclave that claims people have to leave this employment, disavow their family and cease all contact with friends and loved ones? Targetting of minors specifically?

Yep.. that is the definition of a cult, especially coupled with the fact none of them attend church, and there's almost more kidnapping incidents than converts..

In 2005 they had 27 members worldwide, and that was prior to a major break-up of their church.

Some sort of recap would be nice. Most people don’t have time to watch 50 min video.

This young woman joined a church which promotes full time service to God. Her family didn't like that so they offered to pay the church a large sum of money to get her back. When the church replied that she's an adult making her own choices and not a piece of property which they can sell to them, they became even more angry.

Then they played it cool for the next two years and the relationship seemed to improve so when she was invited to attend her brother's wedding, she decided to go as it seemed the family had come to accept her life choices even if they didn't agree with them.

However, it quickly became apparent that the conciliatory behavior was just a trick to get her in their presence. Her parents live on an isolated ranch in Texas. They were the one who picked her up from the airport so she didn't have her own transportation and when they arrived at the ranch in the middle of the night they confiscated her laptop, cellphone, shoes, and luggage. They then berated her with questions, accusations, and demands that she stop doing this work-for-Jesus thing and instead go back to school, get a job etc.

It turns out the family had paid thousands of dollars to hire a professional "deprogrammer" who had instructed them to take away all her belongings, keep her away all night, and not allow her anything to eat. The next morning this deprogrammer took his turn berating her for a few hours about how her faith was wrong etc.

She finally managed to escape but she had to run away barefoot on rocky terrain. Her feet were pretty messed up and she didn't have any water, food, or protection from the sun. It's pretty messed up what they did to her, but she managed to get through it by sticking to her faith.

So memorably that you forgot. So it's a recap of the cult of the branch davidians and not about a Christian group.

I think that Pharisees of the time probably called Jesus and his 12 disciples a cult as well ️

You are right about that, except they used the word "sect", but the spirt was the same. Even the moniker "christian" was a term of derision in how it was originally used.

What really struck a chord with me about this video was at the end when the narrator said that the world is becoming more and more evil, to the point that it's becoming acceptable to kidnap and torture people whom we think have wrong beliefs. That's exactly what this family did to their adult daughter. It's crazy that so many people justify kidnap and torture on the basis of the family just doing what they think is right for the person they're kidnapping. It really reminds me of Jesus' admonition to hate our family and gives that teaching new meaning for me in this context.

I think the true kingdom is still at hand for a handful of us in the United States...if we can lower our pride, find each other, form community/real family, utilize each other's resources and skills and spread the word...the message wasn't just to save us, it was to save the world from what Jesus and prophets before him saw. It has all added up over 2000 years. We have been and are continously blinded and brainwashed from the truth. Corporate America has destroyed the WHOLE world. We just aren't third world yet. I don't think people give Satan enough credit sometimes. He's been watching all of us. He knows what lies to tell

Hi Jbyrd. Thanks for those constructive thoughts. I agree that more of us need the kind of faith this young woman showed. While watching the video I felt a bit torn because it was disgusting to see the way the family was behaving, but at the same time I was reminded of Jesus' instruction to be joyful when we're persecuted for his sake.

I find it easy to imagine that I would be brave and stand up for my faith under any amount of pressure, but I wonder if I really would have the faith if if was actually being tortured.

Targetting of minors specifically?

Did you watch the video?

She was 21 before she even got involved with the group. If I recall correctly, she was 24 when her family allegedly kidnapped her.

A 21 year old woman is not a minor in Texas.

He also said agree with your adversary quickly or you'll be persecuted. Balance I would think. Joyful in sprit not emotionally thrilled or what we think ofshe never renounced her faith. she used her wits to make them think she was going to go along with what they wanted without ever renouncing her faith.

Thanks, HARK. It seems like, when people get scared they stop thinking clearly which is how a situation tends to escalate out of control.

From what I could see, the family pretended to be nice for two years until the woman decided to visit again, and as soon as they could they betrayed that trust. It's no wonder she would not want to see them again!

Oh, I just wrote a recap in post #9
Thank you for the recap.
It would be helpful to know just what group she belonged to.

Just saying it was a cult doesn't make it one.
