I know what you mean, sometimes it helps so much to realise that my negative thoughts and feelings of despair are not a reflection of reality but a disease. I have found medication very helpful too. Sometimes I wonder whether I may have brought this disease on myself though by the way I think about things and the way I react to stress.
Another analogy I have heard about is 'the black dog'. The black dog is the name former UK Priminister Winston Churchill had for his depression. Sometimes I realise I have to tell the black dog to go and sit in the corner! Not easy sometimes is it?
