  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Don't know why anyone would listen to depressing music. :\ It's just ridiculous.

Sometimes it is a comfort to hear from people who have the same problems.
I don't listen to many artists, but Enya has several sad songs about being far from home, etc.

Go to allmusic.com and look up 'Goth Rock' or 'Alternative Dance'. Go crazy.

My personal preferences would be (some of these aren't depressing, per ce, but they are quite haunting):
The Cure - "Fascination Street"
The Sisters Of Mercy - "Dominion/Mother Russia"
Peter Murphy - "Cuts You Up"
All About Eve - "December", "Strangeway", "Tuesday's Child"
New Order - "Blue Monday", "Shellshock", "Crystal", "Primitive Notion"
Depeche Mode - "Blasphemous Rumours", "Never Let Me Down Again", "Stripped", "Enjoy The Silence", "Only When I Lose Myself", "Policy Of Truth", "People Are People", "Barrel Of A Gun"
Monaco - "What Do You Want From Me?"
Garbage - "Only Happy When It Rains"
Angie Aparo - "Wonderland", "Cry"
Catherine Wheel - "Crank"
Sponge - "Plowed"
Alice In Chains - "Would?"
Bush - "Little Things", "Comedown"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Creep", "Big Empty", "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart"
Primitive Radio Gods - "Standing In A Broken Phone Booth (With Money In My Hand)"
Fuel - "Shimmer"
Circle Of Dust - "Chasm", "Goodbye"
Skinny Puppy - "Worlock"
Clint Mansell - "Requiem For A Dream"
Sarah Bettens - "All Of This Past"
Color Theory - "I Felt The Pain"
Lennon Murphy - "My Beautiful"
Stabbing Westward - "What Do I Have To Do?", "Sleep"
Vast - "Touched", "I Don't Have Anything"
Goo Goo Dolls - "Truth Is A Whisper", "It's Over", "What Do You Need?", "Here Is Gone", "Iris", "Name"
A Flock Of Seagulls - "Wishing"
Savage Garden - "Tears Of Pearls", "A Thousand Words", "Gunning Down Romance"
Deana Carter - "Strawberry Wine"
U2 - "Bad", "With Or Without You", "New Year's Day", "The Unforgettable Fire", "A Sort Of Homecoming"

I think that's enough for right now. A lot of these are very epic-sounding.

Nirvana - You Know You're Right

That's about as depressing as you can get....

have you even heard silverchair? compare that to say... this: http://www.sing365.com/music/Lyric.nsf/Suicidal-Dream-lyrics-Silverchair/24F9D4768B878FF7482568A9003A326F

EDIT: i'm not trying to start a "this is more depressing then that so i win" competition... i'm just saying there's a lot more depressing then you know you're right.

by the way, if you like nirvana, you should give silverchair a go. they took nirvana's style and perfected it (in my opinion of course). personaly, you know you're right is the only nirvana song i like, but i love all of silverchair previous to diorama (their latest album).

I think silverchair somewhat ripped off Nirvana. I don't get any feelings or vibe from listening to their music.... It's kinda manufactured or "made" in my opinion. Kinda hard to describe.

That song does look pretty sad... althrough I haven't heard that one.
