  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

demonic oppression?

does anyone know anything about this?
I am going to talk to my priest, I worry that I might suffer from this.

I am not saying that I do, I am just saying it is possible
I don't know a ton about this but I think my mom has it. It's good that you are talking to your priest about this, because I think that's the best start. I think that there are some things in life that really come from bad luck and are not just "trials" given by God - but that's just me - a peasant, don't listen to me :)

There are a lot of different ways and intensities of demonic influence, everything from just their presence in the same room as you, to constant and overwhelming temptation, to destroying things and situations around you to possession (which also has different degrees).

Stepping outside our own religion, in Theravada Buddhism, devils (Mara) are simply symbols of attachments to various vices. Mara often appears to a monk or nun and tempts them. The individual strives with the devil and then identifies him as nothing more than a devil and refutes them. The devil, defeated, simply disappears, conquered.

The same is true for Christianity, whether we are talking about natural temptations or actual demonic beings, devils are actually pitifully weak. If you fear them, if you listen to them, if you give into them, if you sin, then you give the devil more and more power over you. When the devils assaulted St. Anthony, St. Francis or St. Padre Pio, what did they do? Legions of devils would assault St. Antothy, they physically picked up St. Francis and tried to scare him, they came to St. Padre Pio under the guise of Our Lord and Lady. But in every case, the devil were powerless because they could not break the bond between the person and God.

Laugh at the devil, roll your eyes at him, mock him. Know that they can do nothing to you without your consent and God's. The devils are not subverting God, they do not act outside of God's reign. God allows the devils to attack us in order to strengthen us in virtue.

The virtue of a saint is not living in a world where nothing goes wrong, it's in clinging to God when everything goes wrong.

I believe I have mentioned before that sacramentals are powerful things: holy water, blessed rosaries, medals, scapulars and crucifixes. If you surround yourself with icons and symbols of your faith, you can look to the icons and pray to the people therein, asking not to take the temptations away but to have the strength to stand up under them. In a room full of icons, we are reminded of all those who have gone before and suffered many, many times worse than we have and have conquered through the power of Christ by calling on him for strength and fortitude. We can look upon and kiss the Crucifix, reminding ourselves that the devil was conquered by the cross and we continue to conquer the devil by our own crosses. Suffer and obey, pray fervently and devoutly, and talk to a good priest.

Many prayers!

Here's the thing dear bro. Rham...Our lives consists of choices even though we belong to the Lord..We can by disobedience give place to the enemy...Say we hold on to anger and bittterness...We start reaping what we are sowing and follow a tangled web the enemy weaves...Many believers in Christ live defeated lives because they fail to heed how the Holy Spirit is working in their lives and chose to walk in a fleshly worldy lives..Scriptures are pretty clear about continual liars, getting drunk and immoral lifestyles...Following them while turning a deaf ear to the Holy Spirit puts you in a scary place...Thank God He is a pursuer of waywrd lambs..

This is true but the devil also attacks those who are living a good Christian life and who are in a right relationship with God. In fact, I tend to believe that the devil attacks people who are in a state of grace more than he does those who are in a state of mortal sin.

Yes this is true also, but when we walk in the Spirit and put on our armor we can live victorious over the attacks...His is grace is sufficient....Peace to you dear sister, glad you are well from your experience...nab

On the side my wife works with a christian lady who is very bitter and unforgiving due to her huband leaving her for a youger woman..She is angry at God, bitter and frustrated...She is very down and defeated...She could turn the whole picture around with a change of attitude, but chooses to give place to the enemy and is in very sad shape....Choices, it's all about making the right choices for each situation we are in..

I am going to talk to my priest, I worry that I might suffer from this.

I am not saying that I do, I am just saying it is possible

If you are serious, you have to talk to a priest who takes it seriously, some priest don't. he might blow you off.

There is a web site that has prayers and self help advice and prayers if you think there is.

The bottom line is, everyone is harassed by demons at one point or another.

A complete confession of sin and then denouncing all sin attachments you have, really repenting, really converting, really renouncing, forgiving everyone in life, getting rid of resentments etc. Is how you free yourself. That and going to the sacraments regularly, living a innocent life.

If you do not find all the sins or vices you are hanging on to and truly purge yourself of it, those are windows and door the demons can enter through and get you off track.

They don't have to be inside you oppressing you. any situation that is sinful, where sin is being committed or any negative energy, strife, ugliness, fighting, etc, they will be there hanging out making it worse. They are drawn to sin and negativity and if they are hanging around, they can make a situation worse.

Let me give you an example. If you committed a sin, the demons are drawn to you, and if you feel bad about it- the demons can make you feel even worse in order to prevent you from trusting in God's mercy so you will fall into despair, thinking it's hopeless and so you will give up. It's a gift of God to feel bad, because that leads to repentance but the demons can interfere with that and make you depressed instead where you want to give up.

What is most important is for you is to never rely on feelings and emotions but on what you know. You know God forgives 70 x's 70, you know you are born again and He who lives in you is greater then he who is in the world, so pick yourself up, dust off, repent- go to confession and move on.

If you have to do this twice a day, then do it... God may or may not deliver you. He may test you, you may have a thorn like St Paul... I don't know, point is, you never give in or give up.

exactly and its the enemy who feeds off our emotions and then gives them a life of their own where we get trapped and can't get out.

It's us who first began the tornado swirling around because we had been hurt, which that is not our fault but if we do not forgive, the bitterness sets in and then the anger and it gets crazier where we can't even be objective anymore so we can forgive.

and the only way to break this cycle of bad energy and emotions that oppress, is to choice to forgive, repent and get right with God.

but a soul who is truly in a state of grace has nothing to fear. It's an attack from the outside and he has no control over the person what so ever. He attacks in vain.

He has control only when we give it to him through sin and/or negative emotions or feelings.
