  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dopeuter, I see what you are saying, and yes, America did not enter the war as soon as she possibly should have.

Yeah, sure... and this "tossing of rifles" has cost them more lives in a few weeks than the US lost during the whole war, even if you count the war in the Pacific (and I'm not taking civilian losses into consideration).

From the statistics I've found, and they could be wrong, America lost more soldiers during WWII than France. Almost 100,000 more. Where France suffered her major losses was in civilian life.

Datan that's good info, but what exaclty does he mean by friction....perhaps they are delayed from reaching their destinations on time? We've managed to find some stuff they weren't supposed to have, what about the stuff we aren't finding. More importantly, the resolutions stating they aren't supposed to have this stuff is almost 12 years old.

this is uncalled for country smearing.
The french are one of the most patriotic/nationalistic people. They would never surrender without a fight. Unfortunately, their defense strategy of an impregenable war was flawed. The French put up one of the most famous resistance of the war - the stories of their resistance fighters are known everywhere.

This is either beong ignorant or deliberately ignoring history and indulging in smear tactics. I'm not sure which is worse.

It was neither, it was rude, and I apologize, I'll retract my statement about France throwing down their rifles.

OK. the point was that during the later stages of the inspections, UN inspectors had helicopters and flew wherever they wanted to, without notifying the Iraqis. Wester journalists and Iraqi officials had to follow by car/other helicopters.

Therefore, they were NOT delayed in reaching their destinations since no one except the inspectors knew where they were going.
