  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mark Halperin Warns ‘We’re Gonna See More’ Advocacy To Stop Trump From Taking Office As Inauguration ‘Gets Closer’

In a Thursday column for The Hill, liberal attorneys Evan Davis and David Schulte argued that Congress can still prevent Trump from taking office on Jan. 20 by rejecting electoral votes on Jan. 6, claiming Trumpis disqualified under the 14th Amendment. Halperin, on “American Agenda,” suggested that as the shock of Trump’s November victory subsides, more individuals on the left will follow the attorneys’ lead in opposing Trump’s second term.

Would that somehow be different from the way they responded to his first term?

It wouldn't be. It's a disgraceful proposal and proponents should be shunned and ridiculed for their foolishness.

I don't see any serious movement to try and prevent Trump's inauguration.

Two attorneys saying something is not a threat to democracy.

I wanna see a major movement to keep Biden in the white house.

Since Harris voters are "not going to have a country anymore" I could see them chanting "Hang Kamela Harris" in front of the capitol before storming in - while Dark Brandon watches affairs from the White House with a sly smile.

You'll be waiting a long time, because that's not going to happen.

The most likely way that Trump will be delayed in taking office is for the Republicans to fail to elect a speaker.

Nope…the New congress is sworn in January 3, and then the leadership offices are filled (or not).

Sure, but that would require Republicans to agree, which has 0% chance of happening.

Virtually nothing about the old House passes to the new. No member-elect is sworn in, committees don't have members, the House doesn't have officers, the House has no rules beyond the basic principles of parliamentary procedure, etc. Until a Speaker is elected, the Clerk of the House (a House employee) presides. This will be the 119th time the House has been constituted.

The Senate, on the other hand, is a continuing body and has existed continuously since it first had a quorum to do business on April 6, 1789.

This is an opinion column. No need to worry or spread fear. Trump will slide right in with no problem.

US democracy faced a threat when 147 members of Congress voted against certifying a duly elected President on January 6, 2021. An opinion column does not threaten democracy.

I understand the intent to compare President Trump's reluctance to leave office after the 2020 election and the efforts by many Republicans to keep him in office. However, using this opinion column to label it as a " Democracy is at stake" seems like an exaggerated effort to draw such a parallel.
