If I remember correctly, many scientists hypothesize that the Tunguska event was caused by a comet like body that was made mostly of water. The explosion was caused by the nearly instantaneous transfer of water/ice into steam.

June 30, 1908. Tungus tribesmen and Russian fur traders look up into the southeastern Siberian sky and see a fireball streaking to Earth. When it hit the atmosphere, it created a series of cataclysmic explosions that are considered to be the largest single cosmic event in the history of civilization. Two thousand times the force of the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima.

It's been speculated that it was a piece of a comet, an asteroid, or even a piece of anti-matter. The power of the blast leveled trees in a radial pattern for 2000 kilometers. No real definitive evidence has ever been found to provide a satisfying explanation of what it was.

When was the moon formed?

About 4.4 billion years ago, very early on in the life of the solar system. Most likely it was formed when an object the size of mars gave the earth a good walloping. The result was a molten earth, with a bunch of detritus flying around it, which eventually coalesced into the moon.
