Davian's influenced by the New Atheism. And the old atheism. Atheism's always been about anarchy. For them, breaking traditional moral rules, being rude and offensive is part of the worldview, part of the fun.

I don't see how that helps with the flat Earther (or member of the Flat Earth Society). I have followed the above, and put up with alot of patronizing from Received.:)

When beliefs are scrutinized, people get defensive, and egos get bruised.

There is no objective evidence for gods. Is this news to anyone?

How do you think that little emoticon is seen by other people?

This whole spiel just screams of an implicit vengefulness against religious people. That's the only thing that explains its pure arbitrariness. We're talking about a specific subject, then you suddenly go to no evidence for gods, a curt little question (news to anyone?), and move on your way. Absolutely no connection in the context of this argument, nor the one earlier on this thread when we were talking about decision making and you threw down the same non-sequitur by pointing out no evidence for deities. So you're either being arbitrary, or imputing revenge in subtle ways.

Hit me baby one more time.

And you wonder why the hell I don't respond to many of your threads after a while, especially when they're like 49. This is all about the whole dignity and treating your interlocutor respectfully/ethically that we're talking about. Look in the mirror, man. Where is the good old Davian of old?

Indeed. Canada is a hotbed of anarchy. ^_^

Like, not being religious?

I have yet to receive any warning 'points' or suspensions during my membership here. Or are you just telling me how I think?

I find your post to be rude and offensive, but I take it in good humor.

Is being rude and offensive fun for you?

Of course it has connection to the topic at hand. From the OP: "Some people decide based on facts alone. Others decide based on how they feel."

How do we make decisions in the absence of facts?

You are making this personal. That is not my intent. If you are not up for lifting up the hood on your own brain, and poking around inside, why are you here?

Perhaps he tired of being patronized.

Davian, one more thing and I'll let you get the last word.

It's always been personal. The comments you state, and the way you state them, are interpreted by people. Please see that I'm a person and even if you disagree with my beliefs you don't have to superfluously condescend to them with pointless tags such as, "and yeah, we all know God is totally without evidence."

Is that not a Nietzsche quote in your signature?

Isn't he the "God is dead" guy? Christianity as an antidote to nihilism?

Yeah. He's an evil, mean atheist. I like evil mean atheists who make a lot of sense, especially when they're into the same philosophy of existentialism I'm into. That's because a person's philosophical worth, to me, isn't reducible to any single thing he believes. He also had absurd ideas about women (probably because he got the shaft from Lou Salome).

And the God is dead part is a beautiful, heartwrenching prophetic statement that's an observation about man's loss of God as a cultural reality. He doesn't mean at all that God somehow got killed, but that our lack of belief in him has "killed" him, and there are clear non-gleeful and dark questions he raises in that same passage regarding this death of God. Martin Buber, a hasidic Jew on the opposite side of the atheist spectrum, made the same insightful comment when he spoke of God being in "eclipse". The Christianity and nihilism thing is a bit off; he said he himself was a "nihilist who overcame my nihilism," which I take to mean that his realization of the lack of objective values makes him a nihilist, but because he has something to live for in terms of his personal values he's not a nihilist.

I love Nietzsche. You'd be surprised at how little he speaks of God not existing in a really intellectually rigorous way, i.e., doesn't justify his atheism. He just sort of takes it for granted.

You wouldn't want it to all be about teams, would you? I mean, I could always go back to just reading theists with whom I agree with...

(Not.)

I get a lot of amateur psychology thrown my way. You know, "my beliefs are based on reason and evidence, and you, since you don't agree, you must be messed up".

I find your post to be rude and offensive, but I take it in good humor.

Is being rude and offensive fun for you?

Sorry.
