I've gotten the urge to attempt getting up a debate contest here. Hopefully it will go well.
I'm hoping for a panel of five judges, or a higher odd number if there are enough people who want to do it. In an attempt to neutralize political bias I would like people to put themselves as being either liberal, conservative, or moderate. It seems ideal to me to have two from the left and right and one person from the center.
Judging for the debates should be done based on how well the person debates and not if you agree with them or not. For example a person should be rewarded if the make points that their opponent is unable to refute while properly refuting most of their opponent's points. Obviously logical fallacies, especially ad hominem, would be very bad.
I would like to have 16 participants to begin, though it could be cut down to 8 if there were not enough people signing up. For the first round people would pick their own positions on topics.
So is anybody interested in this?
