How often do you think about death? I think about it frequently. Probably not a day goes by that I'm not aware that this life is not permanent.

My thoughts are of eternity

* We are creatures born in the midst of time
* Time is forever behind us
* Time is forever ahead of us
* Distance is forever ahead whatever direction you point to

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity… - Isaiah 57:15

At death we depart into eternity- Which to me is an incredible thought!

This is why Solomon said it's better to go to a house of mourning I think. He was saying we need to contemplate our mortality often to keep life in perspective.

5 And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven,
6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: - Revelation 10:5-6

If our concept of time does not cease it will eventually become impossible to account for.

I think about it but not in a bad way. If your a believer death is just a transition to a better life to come and depending on your life circumstances may even be a sweet release from problems that have plagued you for decades. So not bothered by it at all....

Yeah I used to have that feeling during my theistic days.

Momento Mori. I might die at any moment for any potential stupid reason. While I don't think about this constantly, I have tried inculcate that sort view into my life. So that I might improve, please God and be of benefit to people.

I think one of my biggest fears of death might be vanity based.. but I really hate the idea of other people seeing me dead. If I do die part of me just wants to be burned and my ashes scattered in some undisclosed location and no funeral. Death seems like an eerily submissive and defeated state to me.

I remember reading one article about this guy who was killed in a gang shooting and he requested that his funeral be a big party with his actual body sitting lifeless on a chair. Reading that article left me an incredibly sick feeling in my stomach and lingered in my thought for days.

Too often, just like you. It's something I need to stop because it's not healthy.

Yeah, but like a canker sore.. you just can't stop touching it with your tongue. A lot of my fears of death (especially for my age) is the idea of getting killed in a traffic collision. I feel a lot when I see those grave markers on the highway.

Same here. To me it's like a phobia. One aspect of it that bothers me the most is there's zero control over it. I could drop dead from a heart attack or stroke or aneurism etc while I'm typing this.

Funerals also greatly disturb me. The few I've been too.. they are like a few hours long in the morning.. like how can you even begin to send off a person with that? Also the funerals are usually incredibly vanilla and fake. A mostly one dimensional testimony of the man or woman's life and "who" they were.

It might hurt my loved ones.. but I'm tempted to put no funeral in my future will.

It's hard to get a handle on it. It really hit me when I was about 38 and that was 21 years ago. I don't dwell upon it. It just grabs at me from time to time. I need to turn it around so that I look forward to it instead.

Memento mori. The four last things. Death, judgment, heaven, hell. It's not wrong to think about death. But what it should get you thinking about is what to do with the time before you die. Will you die well?

I wish I felt that way. For some reason I find the next life scary. Like the first day at school or at a new job or whatever. It's not rational, but it's there nonetheless.

Honestly - apart from sorting out the practical issues - I rarely think about it. This in spite of the fact that I've had to deal with the aftermath of 3 deaths over the past couple of years. I'll be given away for spare parts with the leftovers reduced to ashes. No funeral.

I realised many years ago that death will be no different to the state I was in before I was born. I was non-existent then and I'll be non-existent once I die. I don't need to worry about getting (or not getting) into heaven and, to me, moving on to a state of nothingness means there's nothing about death to be concerned about.

If I have any concerns it's not about death itself but the process of dying.

Funerals have turned into ceremonies of canonization where everybody is an instant saint. Somebody will even figure out how you, who say you are an atheist, will be proclaimed one of Jesus' tight buddies and heaven bound. At least the older Catholic funerals were events where you got to pray hard for their dubious little souls. That's the kind of funeral I want. I know I need it.

My wife has promised to have me deep frozen and shot into space. I intend getting picked up by an advanced alien species and reanimated.

As to thinking of death, well
It's a Mr Death or something, apparently he's come about the reaping.
