  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's a great talk given by Sam Harris. In it explains the potential implications for religions if death is the end. "If we're right, and nothing happens after death, every religion ever devised is false."

It's bit long, but worth it. Enjoy! :)

Not true at all. If there is no eternal life it would not matter at all. The benefit for me is right here and right now in this life. Even the thought of eternal life, real or not gives people peace and comfort right here and right now. That is why religious people do not need to drink or take drugs. They can feel good about themselves and feel good about life without out taking anything.

Wow. Joshua hit it right on the head for once! Religion is indeed about helping people here and now cope with life's adversities and challenges. Some of us just don't need it to help them through life.

This is probably the good part of religion. It helps people feel good.m and that is what it SHOULD do. The problems arise when one person wants to force their religion on another.

Maybe you don't understand what words mean?

So? some people don't worship in a church, either.

Some atheists, for example, go to church to get married or have their eulogy heard.

They'll even make vows to Someone they don't believe in.

What's your point?

What you have written here makes it sound like education is demonic and evil.

I don't worship anywhere, ever. Nor have I heard of these things you speak of. Surely I would know of this, if atheism was a religion.

I'm trying to figure out your point.

So Child's post goes almost two hours without an answer; then, when someone does answer, those sitting on the sidelines suddenly learn to type, don't they? ;)

People who sit on the sidelines and bark, do it for one of three reasons: to coach, to cheerlead, or to take pot shots.

What if death is not the end and the Bible is true? What will you tell God at the judgement seat when He asks why He should let you into heaven?

As Bertrand Russell was supposed to have said when posed with a similar question of what he would say to God upon finding out he was real:

'Sir, why did you not give me better evidence?'"

What you said didn't make any sense, as it there are no rules or agreement on anything you said.

'Sir, why did you not give me better evidence?'"

Romans 1:20-21
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
