  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Strange that you're not offering any better answers.

What isn't strange is you piping up against one who dared answer; something I've come to expect from you guys.

If you think you can provide better answers, please feel free to do so.

Otherwise ... :)
The answer: ATHEISM IS NOT A RELIGION.

This is probably the good part of religion. It helps people feel good.m and that is what it SHOULD do. The problems arise when one person wants to force their religion on another.

But doesn't history show that it's the forcing it upon others that is the part that feels good? (Not buying into the feel good theology, sorry)

I'm not about to watch a 56 minute video, but please tell me that Harris isn't so completely clueless as to think that every religion has believed in a meaningful afterlife.

I watched the first 3 minutes to find that unfortunately that does appear to be his position. I stopped watching after that.

I knew that w/o needing to watch, but thanks for the confirmation.

Is that like Forcing Newton's theory of gravitation?
No. Gravity was taught even by the good guys who also taught about God. The real culprit so called sciences have to do with replacing God and creation.

And those "good guys" can do so in the church or any class that deals with religion.

Also, science and evolution don't replace "God" and it's not addressed.

Evos can do it in a closet.

Be honest. Creation is taught in school as...Darwin's pond, or some silly version of it like a crevice or thermal vent, etc. Primordial soup is what they condensed the universe and creation of life to, both! Get suspicious people, consider the source! Snap out of it.

Poor reading comprehension on your part?

Poor reading, and eye for satire on your part?
Is this poor reading too?

Is Atheism a Religion

Here is the summary from the link:
In summary, then, if one is asking if Atheists believe in supernatural powers, the answer is, “No – Atheism is not a D1-religion.” If one is asking if Atheists should be protected by the Constitution, the answer is, “Yes, Atheism is a D2-religion.” And if one is asking whether Atheists can be moral, the answer will depend upon the participants’ D1-religious views. If an individual contends that belief in God is a requirement for a person to have D3-religion, the answer will be “no.” If that person accepts that morality is a human quality, that needs no supernatural approval, the answer is “yes.”
Do you consider yourselves exempt from discrimination, based on the standards set forth in the Equal Opportunity Act, as far as religion is concerned?

To wit, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, genetic information, or age?

You are entitled to your own warped opinions, but fail to recognize facts.

Let me guess: Facts can take a hike.

Yup.

Facts, evidence, reality can all take a hike if they don't conform to his personal beliefs. The main problem is that he sees absolutely nothing wrong with that mindset. Amazing, isn't it?
