  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Death metal is a genre that is based mostly from thrash metal. The sounds produced by the vocals are often grunting and snarls. The guitar works are usually quite fast, but downtuned to match sort of that "heavy" style. The drummings are fast as well and many involve using the double bass.

Lyric-wise, they range from violence to Satanism, mythisticm, etc etc. Not necessarily what you would call "Christian" material, but nevertheless, it's still a well liked genre for the rock folks.

My favorite bands of death metal often comes from the "melodic death metal" scene. Some of my favorite bands are Children of Bodom, In Flames, and Arch Enemy. I love the sound they produce more than the lyrics they have.

Sorry, excuse my ignorance, but I am not aware of thrash metal. As you seem to be knowledgeable on the genres, can you expand on that please?

I certainly must agree wit you that Satanist and violent lyrics or not Christian. Can you explain how or where the crossover happens for Christian death metal ?

Can you maybe expand on that ? What is it the sound does for you ? Can you describe that “sound” in words. I think this will help me to understand the genre .

Thank you and God Bless

The way I see it is mainly the lyrics (lifting up Jesus' name and other christian themes) and the very knowledge that the musicians behind the music are true believers and Christians.

Some of the most beautiful melodies in modern music come from this genre in my opinnion. They have a kind of epic feel to them... Hard to explain. :) I used to like Children of Bodom and In flames as well, but now that I am a reborn Christian I'm not so sure about it. I still like the music and the compositions but it is nowhere near to a good praise/worship song. (Hillsong rules!)
If you want to hear it those genres for yourself go at Youtube.com and search band likes In Flames, Children of Bodom.

Hi there Alatir,

Thanks for your input and welcomes to CF as I see you are a recent new member. We pray that you will share and enjoy what our Lord God has in store for you through your time spent on this forum.

The way I see it is mainly the lyrics (lifting up Jesus' name and other christian themes) and the very knowledge that the musicians behind the music are true believers and Christians.

This is really the area that I want to explore. My question is, do these musicians tap into being Holy Spirit led.

For example:
If I was in the world playing in a Death Metal band and the band was really into blasphemous lyrics and really the whole sex, drugs & Rock ‘n’ roll thing.

I am saved ( praise the Lord) and decide I want to P & W the Lord and start a Death Metal P & W band. We cut a CD and many of the songs get popular in the churches and / or have this huge Christian following (example P.O.D.).

Thanks for your input .

Blessings

That's a good question. Something tells me the aesthetics of this particular genre are not necessirely conjoining (right word?) with God's idea of beauty and harmony. Rather it's like using Satan's weapons against Satan himself.

P.S. Thanks for the warm welcome!
