Dealing with demons

So I'm reading this book by Derek Prince titled, "They shall expel demons" and in it, though I'm not quite halfway through he teaches that the main way he dealt with demons was to ask them their name then call them out until they did so. Now perhaps he deals with this more in a later chapter (though I did watch an excellent YouTube vid teaching by Bro Derek yesterday covering the same material) but what role does discernment of spirits play in this warfare?

Now I firmly agree with Derek in that Christ never sent a person to minister without giving them authority over demons. I do believe that continues today. So why is it that so many who do try this warfare have no success?

For instance, I have 3 children. My oldest, a boy, has mild autistic symptoms and has been diagnosed as such. My second oldest, a girl, has more severe symptoms. One day, back when I was perceivably more anointed in the Spirit, I was ministering to my wife. She had tremendous back pain and was in tears. I simply laid my hand on her back without saying a word and she said she felt her back straighten up almost. Well I thought it would be a good idea to try and minister to my children. My daughter (mentioned above) was sleeping and I approached her and said in the name of Jesus then laid my hand on her... Nothing happened she didnt even move. Then I said well perhaps she doesn't have a demon, and when I said that she flipped over in bed and wiggled around. So we started commanding the demon to leave her but it would not. Now I knew much less then than I do now, but my question is should every Spirit filled believer attempt to cast out demons? I mean the subject is so hush hush in church circles any more and I am so curious and interested in it! I plan on seeking the Lord's assistance in this matter but would like some practical advice if anyone here has any they can give!

The only real experience I have with such things outside of my own healing and deliverance was one day, early in the morning I was up doing my morning prayer and Bible Study. I heard this most awful siren tell come from just inside a hallway not more than 10 feet away. Immediately I heard the Spirit say to me, tell that thing in the Name of Jesus to leave! And i did and it did leave. Upon further investigation (no one but me and my dog heard this thing) my dog was curled up in a corner in that very room the noise came from shaking and trembling and whimpering. I told him it was ok and he came to me and wouldnt leave my side that morning. Could that have been a signal from vil itself that I am a combatant in this struggle?

Wow Bryan - quite a post. Very honest and straightforward. Prince is one of the best on the subject. At the same time, I prefer not to allow a demon to speak through someone in order to learn its name, that only gives it more control of the person.

A few random thoughts, not all disorders are demons, but if I were the father, I'd be exploring this path just as you are. My anger against a demon robbing my child like that would be intense. Remember how Jesus said there were different types of demons, and some only come out with prayer? Some deliverances do require someone with greater anointing and authority; they just do.

I'd love to get you and your children to Mark Pearson in northern Massachusetts - About the Pearsons | Institute for Christian Renewal. He's got a healing ministry and is extremely anointed in all manner of healing and deliverance, which often go hand-in-hand. Alternatively, Frances MacNutt has a similar healing center in Jacksonville, FL - Christian Healing Ministries. He's also one of the truly anointed in this ministry.

Now, if it were my children, I'd be looking into the matter as you are, but I would be combining it with fasting and prayer - and I mean some real fasting, like a season of weeks where you fast all but one meal a day or a week-long fast . . . pray about it. Jesus fasted in the desert before confronting the devil, there's something about that mastery of the flesh and surrendering to God's power that gives us increased authority to wield the Name of Jesus and overcome the devil. A friend of mine is incredibly anointed in deliverance, and he always has a team praying and fasting for him when he's scheduled a deliverance for someone.

Also, teaching how to maintain deliverance is important because Matt 12:"When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation."

There was one time I had forgiveness towards a person earlier this year. This person and I worked together in a store. I had angry because I felt like I was doing most of the work while she was spending alot of time on the internet. Though I prayed the Lord's prayer everyone morning which includes forgiving everyone who have sinned against me, unforgiveness towards my co-worker was building up. Then one morning as I was working in the store, I had an uneasy feeling. It was oppression on my mind. It was following me around for hours. Close to 11am I sat down and prayed to the Lord of why I am getting this feeling. After a short while I realize maybe my unforgiveness towards my co-worker was the reason for the oppression.

So I prayed to the Lord and said I forgive my co-worker, this time I meant it. I made myself to use friendship love to replace the anger in me. Then after I while, I realize the oppression on my mind was gone. I was so happy and I thank the Lord Jesus to help me. It was a learning experience to me of not to build unforgiveness in me. Back in April or early this month, I was realize I felt unforgiveness towards someone, but fortunately I was able to remove it.

Just be thankful it was something easy to forgive. Try having to forgive men that hated you so much they stalked, drugged, kidnapped, raped your wife just to destroy your marriage out of spite and cheered about it when they found out she was pregnant.

At that point it isn't just unforgiveness but rage you have to deal with.

The question there is, was Jesus asking the demon its name or the man, and the demon answered? No way to be sure, but its dangerous to force a demon to manifest that way without being very sure, and there's not enough to go on there. Most people anointed in deliverance that I've encountered, do not talk to the demons, they rely on the discerning of spirits, which is the purpose of that gift. Some have gotten into the habit of having discussions with demons, which is extremely dangerous as they are liars by nature. And others have formed the wrong idea on that you have to get the demon's name in order to gain authority over it - the only authority there is is the Name of Jesus. Now, all of that said, there are times when you wind up in a conversation with the demon who explains why it has a right to be there (unrepented abortion, illicit sex, etc). In that case, the information can be used to lead the person through repentance to set them free.

I saw someone mention earlier about a "one meal fast". Could someone explain this to me? What kind of fasting would be suitable for something like this? Like, what if one has a medical condition to where you're unable to go without liquid or food or both?

Fasting doesn't necessarily mean no food. It could be no tv or internet and use the time to peay. It can be a meal a day for a week. It can be a piece of bread instead of a meal. The ancient church's no meat on fridays was a form of fast - a denial of the flesh. Offer God what you can and He'll work with you where you are.

I didn't have the guts to tell her to up her performance. The store belongs to my male friend and she works for my friend. So 3 of us are friends. I already told my male friend about her so its up to him to take action since he is the owner.

I was never in a single church that cast demons away...so I had to go to God and ask him to cast any demons out and away. Which he did as I lay in bed and closed my eyes. I opened my eyes towards the end and saw a black and red female demon leave (very small and round as far as the dark black that surrounded the red screaming demon)
I was not fearful.
Thing is is that I was totally unaware of demons that lurked around me except for the occasional spirit of fear that can enter a room. As far as what I felt going on with my body...it felt as if my chest and belly were split wide open and the colors of yellow and the essence of honey is what was in my midsection.( and the feeling of fluttering butterfly wings )

I was all about learning forgiveness and walking in love and anointing my home. I did not understand why I did not know I had demons around me. In the bible people were aware and they would approach the apostles to have the demons expelled or sent away. The movies of today are what scare us when it comes to demons and when people act like it was something you did that caused a demon...which is more slander and gossip about your spiritual life from others if you do have a demon around you. Like you must have sinned quite a bit...in others words people are judged by others if they have demons. Really people......

Just recently my daughter was attacked by a demon...she has seen this demon from a distance several times in her lifetime...it has tried to attack her in the past but has not been successful...this time though it attacked her in her bed and took out a sharp tooth from its mouth and tried stabbing her with it.
I've never been in so much shock and anger when it has come to warfare against the enemy..I was totally unprepared in everyway when it happened and the only thing I knew to do was tell it to go in Jesus name...said it several times until the demon faded away (at least that is how my daughter saw the demon...it faded away.) I felt sooo much anger towards that demon.
that is why I was looking up the seer annointing a few weeks ago and why I was so upset at the generation curse thing ...it was like to others we had done something that invited the demon. But I was wondering why my daughter could see into the spiritual...

as far as curses that come from our mouth ...God says blessings and curses should not come from the same fountain...a fountain I believe is what gives water and it has a flow to it so it is a flow of life giving words..blessings...so if blessings can go from our mouth and settle upon an individual then so can curses.
I catch myself all the time when i am hurt by someone...I catch myself saying icky things...but i know I hate gossip and slander and lies..I do not like it when people go out of their way on purpose to get revenge or bring someone down with their lies...its like they smile when others are in pain and think the one in pain is soooo weak. they also are very good at playing the victim and lying to others to get more on their side so its like a football team against one. I guess my anger and frustration against evil done by others is what makes me explode and words..mostly "Why?" but angry words of what they are doing..I know I'm suppose to be nice to those who curse me...its just I hate going through the same battle year after year of being pounded with the lies..from the same people.

I had a few dreams on demons and curses

I had a dream years ago...about the time I joined CF. In the dream I was sitting at a picnic table which was one of many that formed a line of tables that divided a camp. tents to my left and tents to my right...i remember I sat at the end of the table and there were deformed strange looking people around this table and they were wanting to talk and were smiling. Deformed babies even were crawling around. I picked up a baby and very calmly told it that whatever curse it wanted to throw at me would bounce back to them...They all left very quickly with fear on their faces as they went away down the divide...they never entered the tent areas. I was very calm and at peace in this dream.

Another dream about a year ago put me in an underground shopping /zoo and a black man sitting on the ground grabbed me and he started to deform and I reached my arms up to heaven and started to praise God and the heavens opened and the black deformed man was terrified. He was not expecting me to do that kind of warfare.( It felt wonderful as i felt and saw my voice reaching the heavens and the clouds opening up to receive the praises)

The reason I'm posting this is in the bible it says to ignore the devil and he will flee from you...basically keeping our eyes on Jesus and believing we are under his wings.

I kinda hate that i've gone through this...not sure what other people have gone through and if they keep everything hush hush..but I know everyone sins(not big obvious sins...but judgement towards others type of sins) as they are guided into truth...That is why daily we should say the Lords Prayer.

Just wondering though...why are we unaware of the demons around us?...Have we lived so long a certain way that we just don't recognize them?
I will at this point keep my eyes on Jesus and let the enemy flee...I've put myself and my family under Gods wings...because to many things I don't understand. I will let the curses bounce off of Gods wings that he has wrapped around me and my family.

So if you were listen to Benny Hinn's sermons on deliverance from demons, would you be able to pick up if Hinn is preaching with false spirit since discerning of spirits is your primary gift from Holy Spirit.

Depends. I don't dictate how or when the gift works. Sometimes I get nothing. Other times I sense anointing on truth. Other times I get a strong reaction to error. Sometimes I even recognize what spirit is behind that error.
n. I couldn't stand to be in the same room with one girl.

So what if Benny is just teaching personal opinion? I may get no reaction at all. What if he has just a little bit off from truth?

The truth is in the Word of God, and therein we find that 'greater is He that is in' us, 'than he that is in the world'... and fear of demons, an unholy respect of them is not a way to battle them... they are disgusting, deceiving, and dirty... and we eliminate them like filth on our dinner plate... Do not believe any teaching that makes them sound stronger, wiser, or more powerful... Jesus had total authority over them, and passed it on to 'them that believe'... and to believe anything else is unbiblical...

That's just a term some prophetic people use to elevate themselves above other prophetic types as if they have a greater anointing. 'Seer' is just one of the old testament interchangeable terms for 'prophet' used only once or twice in the Bible - actually, it's the older term that later became 'prophet'. In the new testament, there is no 'seer' gift or office. Those who try to promote themselves as a 'seer' are rooted in spiritual pride. It's like anything today, man likes titles and promotion, so they invent new things. I guess it's not really a new thing though, Paul railed against the 'super apostles' in his day too

Basically, the gift of seeing into the spirit realm isn't even the prophetic gift, its the gift of discerning of spirits.
