CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My favorite scene was the tough guy at the park who started to pick a fight with the intellectual who made a passing comment as they were walking by. He had some of the funniest lines I've ever seen in a film.

Takes me back. Definitely one of the most memorable movies from my teenage years. LOL, my friends and I had the entire movie memorized and quoted it on a regular basis. 
It's also the beginning of my obsession with Matthew McConnaughey.

As a teenager this was one of my favorites movies, A friend and i had rented it and liked it so much, we had to go out and get the movie and the soundtrack was great also.

Loved it (still do) I had the movie and soundtrack when I was younger. Great music in it.
I watched it not too long ago with my husband and I don't think he quite "got it" like I did- maybe it's one of those things you have to watch (and appreciate) as a teenager!

i've tried to watch it several times, and i just don't get it, i guess. it's supposed to be about being a teenager in the 70's, right? and i WAS a teenager in the 70's - but my experience was quite a bit different from what i see in the movie.

I don't know how accurate it is, but I just think it's funny. Richard Linklater was a teenager in Austin the 70's and he directed it.

It's supposed to be VERY accurate, the essays on the Criterion Collection release solidify this, although I can't say with Certainty just HOW accurate it is. In any event, it's to the 70's what American Graffiti is to the 50's.
