• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Well, I've finally had enough of the nictine beast. Have been smoking since I was 13 am now 44. I would appreciate prayer for strength and encouragment. God Bless you all and thankyou
Congratulations. I am praying for you.

Prayer helps but so does getting mad at one's own weakness. I smoked for about the same time as you and tried to quit numerous times. What finally helped me realize my dream of stopping was the sudden realization of how I was being made a fool of by the tobacco companies. Imagine.... actually being dumb enough to pay money to get sick? That is the way I suddenly saw it. I was giving my money away and ruining my health in return. Those who got my hard earned cash were gleefully spending what I gave them. Believe me when I say that tobacco company execs do not smoke. They know better. I did all this voluntarily. I finally got mad and it was the anger which gave me the strength to stop. That was back in '82. I'm 71 one now. Neither my house nor my car nor my clothing smells like stale ciggy smoke. I am free... To hell with the tobacco companies. To hell with being a weakling. To hell with being a social outcast. I spend my money now on things that make me happy like traveling on cruise ships. Smoke free cruise ships. Prayer helps but only if it results in you deciding to stand up and declare freedom. It's not a question of "can you" but one of "will you". I, and others around the planet, are in your corner friend. We're cheering you on..... throw 'em away, your lighter too, stop associating with others who smoke, and don't look back.
