This is a timely reminder. One can get caught up into circular nonsense that goes nowhere, and is akin to a "conversation" of Alice's with the Cheshire cat.

"As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly" (Pro 26:11 KJV).

When an Old Testament verse in quoted in the New Testament, look for its primary meaning to be in the former passage. In this case, Peter writes: "For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire" (2Pe 2:21-22 KJV).

The salvation by works crowd love verses like this because it shows, in their minds, that a saved man can return to his former state and end up in hell because he didn't do his part to be saved.

We have been looking a lot at the fool in Proverbs, and the one thing that we know is that the fool is not interested in knowing God, “How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?” (Pro 1:22 KJV).

The fool isn't interested in heaven. You speak of heavenly things and they'll say, "I'll worry about such things later." They only want to live for the present, and to have their fun. So, a fool will experiment with life. He'll try religion for a bit, so long as it is fun, but as soon as the preaching gets too hot--he'll return to the things that were more comfortable.

There is a huge difference between "knowing the way of righteousness," that is, knowing that salvation is in Christ, but not following it to it's conclusion of receiving Christ. These people have a head knowledge, but they have never had a heart knowledge--they are missing salvation by 18 inches.

The believer has embraced Him Who is the very embodiment, the personification of "wisdom" and have a different kind of knowledge: "He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God" (1Jn 5:10-13 KJV).

Lord, we thank you for the gift of eternal life that You have given to us through the Cross and for the assurance that You are with us, even unto the very end of time. Amen.

Digging a Pit For Others.

More recently there have been incidents of blatant hypocrisies and evil intent, as the perpetrators of evil, attempted to blame someone else, in an attempt to as it were, "dig a pit" for the innocent.

The innocent victim(s) were accused of the evil/evil intent the perpetrator, with pre-meditation, carried out, as they conspired to set up the innocent with nefarious forethought and intent.

As more and more light was shed on "who" the actual perpetrator was, along with their false accusations, the pit that these perpetrators dug was discovered. And they had not realized that ev'ry shovel-full of dirt they dug, that it was their "own" pit that they were digging.

This also comes to mind:

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" ~Isa 5:20

God's Protection.

God, just as in the book of Job, places a "hedge of protection around His own, who TRUST Him. No bad things from the enemy aimed at us, can "land" or "alight" on us or our households. They, like a tumbleweed, commence to wandering, for they cannot come near us, and they, in essence, return to the "sender" of it.

God grants favor, blessings, and His protection to us, against all kinds of odds. He, throughout His Word promises and proclaims, again and again, that He WILL protect and defend those who TRUST in Him.

How precious is THAT??!!

We Reap What We Sow.

God warns us that if we intend harm towards others, and plan their demise and/or destruction, whether literally, or even in our hearts, that we will stumble over or fall into that destruction intention ourselves.

It reminds me of this:

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." ~Gal 6:7

Evil Intent.

When we harbor "evil intent" in our hearts, that intent backfires, sooner or later. God reminds us that whatever we sow, we will reap.

Safe From Evil.

"As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come." ~Pr 26:2

Those who trust in God are safe from all the wiles of the enemy, including any "curses", for they can not come near our dwelling, for God Himself is our Protector and Defender. We are, as it were, "teflon-ed" against those evil darts and arrows and curses. They "bounce right off" because of the "shield", the "hedge of protection" that God has placed round about us.

God is a reassuring and comforting and mighty God, is He not?

We have MUCH to thank Him for and to praise and worship Him for, amen?

Proverbs 26 is chock-full of down-to-earth common sense and wisdom. For instance in verse 4, here it warns us to avoid engaging in "foolish conversations" because when we step into that ring that God did not tell us to step into, we're gonna be in a "fool's arena" and the devil is gonna have a real good time boppin' us around, cuz he KNOWS we done stepped away from God's will, and "stepped outta' line". So what's he gonna do? He's gonna make a fool outta' us.

Q: The bottom line is: what matters MOST to God?

A: OBEDIENCE.

(This bears repeating. Amen)

In reading Proverbs 26, this verse stood out for me...it is a most precious reminder of how God Himself watches over us, and nothing that means us harm will find us and "alight" on us, when we are under His watchful care. It is saying that evil and curses and flaming arrows will "fly AWAY" from us. It's like God has put spiritual "teflon" on us hahaaaaaa

How precious is THAT?!
