I don't care what anyone says, dating is wrong! I believe God choses someone special for you in advance. Any thoughts?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So how are we meant to find this special person God has chosen for us if we can't date them and find out what they are like?

You're fourteen. Give it some time. I'm going to graduate in two weeks and haven't dated, but I by no means think it's wrong and would be willing to date if a friend asked me. Do explain how you think you're supposed to find the special person. If the answer is courtship, I want details about exactly what you mean.

I think the younger one is, the more limits parents should put on types of friendships that are appropriate. I have no clue what age one should be able to begin dating. I never had kids, and I didn't date until college. Dating can simply be going to the movies, going out for a soda, riding bikes around the block. Parents of young people (like the 14 year old who started this) have a responsibility to set limits, to protect their children, and to provide them the tools to not get hurt. That might mean chaperoned "dates" only, up to a certain age. It might mean an age at which they're allowed to begin to hold hands. And so on.
The word fornication has a specific meaning, and regular dating isn't it. But you're right, that without proper knowledge and limits and guidance, dating can lead further. It's about good parenting, good role models, and teaching kids to feel comfortable saying "no" to anything they feel uncomfortable with.

I personally found it necessary to actually seek that "someone special", instead of waiting for divine intervention to take place. If you believe in God, then the advice "God helps those who help themselves" has relevance here.
Dating doesn't require "fornication", btw. You can date simply in order to get to know members of the opposite sex. Sex isn't required. This is a good learning experience, since the first person you date will almost certainly be incompatible with you. It takes a while to find someone reasonably compatible.
