  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know here at CF there are many wise people and we can all learn a lot from their experiences. So i was wondering if you guys could share some of your best advice that you would give to a dating couple.

Heres the thing though, I am not looking for dating tips, rules, etc.

I am looking for Christian advice at how to be a part of a christian couple that is constantly seeking God and having him at the centre of their relationship. Advice for how a boyfriend can be a godly boyfriend and same for a girlfriend, that type of stuff.

Let's hear what youve got

Well, my advice is to firstly before you enter a relationship, PRAY PRAY PRAY .

Build you relationship on a good foundation, just like the man in the bible who builthis house on the rock.

Also, try praying early on in the relationship, no heavy stuff, just general prayer.

I think it's important for you to establish boundaries early in the r/ship 2, because then you're both clear on how each others limits, etc.

AND STICK TO THEM!!!!!
Be strong enough to back away when things seem to be getting 2 far, it's in both of your interests to do so.

Women can help the guy out by not showing 2 much flesh(if any at all??) or talk to the guy and see what areas he stumbles in, ie:if her wearing that tiny top causes him to lust, then she could not wear it, etc.

Also I think a high level of friendship is required for a r/ship, because you'd be suprised how much you r/ship gets better when you have that element in there.

Guys, BE ROMANTIC!!!!! BE THOUGHTFUL!! Buy her flowers, chocolates, suprise her, nothing big and expensive, just something to let you know that you're thinking of her, email her in the day, text her, whatever, just remember that females usually need more attention than guys do.

I'm sure I can think of loads more, but I'll post them later.....

What we have been doing is a bible study together...this REALLY helps, because its like we are growing in our relationship, and growing in our relationship with God. its an amazing step to take, and it has really made us a more mature couple...i think

Well, just to add my two cents in here, I was definently shocked when my new found beau at the time asked me late one night how my prayer life was. Now, my beau is a pastor, but this kinda sent me into "wowville" if you will. Then he explained why he asked me with the genuine concern that he had. He told me that he believes with out a shadow of a doubt that he is to be the spiritual leader in our relationship. In fact, scripture tells women that they should remain quiet in church and to learn from their husbands. That I think is what a lot of women need to realize, that their husbands do have this command from God to lead them and their future families in spiritual walks. This clued me in to the fact that this guy wasn't just out to "have a good time" but that he in fact was serious. Other things that clued me to the fact that he wanted our relationship to be centered around God was that he disscussed the fact that he was in fact a human male. He had desires, and wants the same as any typical heathen would. He then made a very profound statement for me. He said that if we succombed to the worldly view of sex then he would not be able to teach me or the people in his church (mind you this conversation happened only 2 days after we had became "seriously dating"). After that, the qualities of seeing him take time out of his day to teach me about God and the kind of walk and relationship that I should have with God that is what makes the biggest impacts on me. Yes, the phone calls to say hey are awesome, the hugs for no reason are great, but the things that make the most impact and show me that he is here to stay is the Godly qualities that he shows me every day. Another thing that I have learned is that men and women need to know their God-given roles in the relationship, and they need to know how these roles imitate either Christ roles toward the church, or the churchs roles toward Christ. For men some of those roles would be leadership, provision, respect, ect. Some of the womens roles would be submission, encouragement, support, etc.
