  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I am wanting to create a database program for my home based businnes. More so just to see what I need to do to create one and not because I really need it.

But I was hoping htat I could get everyone opinion on what to use and the best way to go about this with out using some already made.

My idea is to create this datbase in a web base format so that I could open it and work on it using any one of the computers that I have in the house right now.

I have already installed Apache, SQL 7.0 and I have used Frontpage, HTML and a limited amount of JavaScript and PHP for forms on a web site.I believe this can be done using PHP but I would like another opinion.

SO what do you think?

You're definately on the right path, but this may be overkill for what you need. You must also note that one computer will have to act as the server and will need to be on whenever you want access to this page. If there's not too many simultaneous connections, then a simple access program would work, but a webservice would be more elegant and extendable. However, do you really need it and how would it work? Are you planning on just a bunch of textfields in a page that allows you to query and change the data? The simplest way would be to simply share the database.

Since it's a business you might as well just go ahead and create something. PHP+mySQL is your best option for a web service.
