I suspect that part of the reason why the Darth Vader quote has become so repeated and well-known is that the left has cozied up to nerd culture in the last handful of years, at least the more popular parts of this (this might be a reaction to part of nerd culture become mainstream, as a glance at the number of superhero movies easily shows). When you get to mainstream nerd culture, nothing is bigger than the Star Wars franchise, and certainly with the reboots many on the left are eager to see the story speak to them. It's something that they grew up with, that they continue to see develop even now, and which they hope to have as a reflection of their preferred society. It's so well known that it is arguably a deeper part of their culture than any American or classically Western values or myths (compare familiarity with, say, the Legend of Sleepy Hollow or the Arthurian Romances).

So when someone from the evil Breitbart claims to identify with Star Wars, its akin to heresy. He's ripping away part of their culture. It can't be something which can be shared between the left and the right, which makes it outrageous that someone so undeniably on the right would latch on to it.

As proof of this, consider that Steve Bannon also mentioned Satan and (perhaps worse in the eyes of the left) Dick Cheney. Yet you very rarely hear about that these days. It's always about him talking about Darth Vader, as though that were the most outrageous thing imaginable to say.

First, Bannon can't be Darth Vader as you guys already said that was Cheney. So Bannon has to be Maul or someone else. Secondly, the large corporations are not the press. The press means any person or group which reports on the news. Technically, blogs, talk radio, and podcasts covering the news are part of the press.Trump being mean to them may hasten the mainstream media's collapse, but they have been terminal for years.
Maul was before Vader, so if Cheney was Vader, Bannon can't be Maul. Kylo Ren, maybe.

No silly; Cheney was the Penguin.

While we're on insightful analogies, Obama is clearly Sauron. Just try to look him in the eye for more than a few seconds, I dare you. Tell me you don't get creeped out and start hissing about The Precious.

LOL - this thread is a gem - thx I needed that
That makes Trump the Joker.
