PRE-WRITTEN, INTER-TESTAMENT HISTORY

Here is a possible outline of events;

Three kings in persia ; CYRUS,CAMBYSES ,DARIUS HYSTASPES.

The 4th king ; XERXES, THE RICHEST AND MOST POWERFUL, INVADED GREECE, BUT WAS DEFEATED AT SALAMIS 480BC

A mighty king ; ALEXANDA, AND THE DIVISION INTO 4 KINGDOMS--GREECE ; ASIA MINOR ; SYRIA ; EGYPT

"King of the south" ptolemy 1 of egypt
one of his princes ; Seleucus Nicator , originally an officer under ptolemy 1 ,became king of syria, most powerful of alexandas successors
"Daughter"-6, BERENICE, daughter of ptolemy 2 , was given in marriage to Antiochus 2 , and was murdered.
"A shoot from her roots " , Ptolemy 3 , brother of Bernice, in retaliation,invaded syria , and won a great victory
8;" two sons" SELEUCUS 3 AND ANTIOCHUS 3
Ptolemy 4 defeated antiochus 3 , with great loss in the battle of raphia, near egypt 217 BC
Antiochus returned 14 years later- the jews helped and defeated Egypt
Antiochus conquered Palestine.
17-Antiochus gave his daughter CLEOPATRA in a treacherous marriage alliance to Ptolemy 5 , hoping to get control of Egypt.
She stood with her husband
Antiochus then invaded greece and asia minor, and was defeated by the Roman army at magnesia, 190 BC
"A CONTEMPTABLE PERSON" 21-35, ANTIOCHUS EPIPHANES, not the rightful heir, but by treachery.
He made himself master of Egypt, partly by force and partly by cunning deciet.
Ptolemy 6 , son of cleopatra, nephew of Antiochus, was defeated by treachery of his subjects.
27-Under the guise of friendship they vied with each other in treachery
Returning from egypt, Antiochus attacked Jerusalem, slew 80,000, took 40,000 and sold 40,000 Jews into slavery.
Anti again invaded Egypt, but the roman fleet compelled him to retire.
He vented his anger on jerusalem and desecrated the temple. He was helped by apostate jews.
Maccabean brothers.
36-45- Antiochus epiphanes? Antichrist? mohammedan possession of the land? all three?

Although Daniel 11 and 12 are a fairly accurate description of the "Hellenistic Wars", for this very reason as well as other, the "pre-written" aspect is highly disputed. Not saying the skeptics are correct, but it's worth considering.

Daniel 12:1-3 did not happen yet, you don't believe, right?

I think an important thing to remember is that there are forerunners and foreshadows of things to come in prophecy. Was Daniel's vision just about Antiochus IV? What was important about him? Everything is leading up to the Day of the Lord, and Christ mentions going back to Daniel in Matthew 24 and Mark 13 for signs leading up to His return. So I think just identifying Antiochus is not the end of the story.
