  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Daniel 6:15-16 King James Version (KJV)
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.

16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.

Daniel 6:15-16 New English Translation (NET Bible)

15 Then those men came by collusion to the king and said to him, “Recall, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no edict or decree that the king issues can be changed.” 16 So the king gave the order, and Daniel was brought and thrown into a den of lions. The king consoled Daniel by saying, “Your God whom you continually serve will rescue you!”

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

15 They plotted against Daniel and now they act on the plot to try to end Daniel’s life. The king could not change the law which Daniel had to be throne into the lion den nothing could stop it and they knew that when they tricked the king, people may manipulate people to hurt us.

16 The king did not accept God as his own but did accept that God who Daniel served had the power to save him, we are saved most importantly thru Jesus it was God’s biggest plan to save the world by grace.

The law is "against us" men, but it cannot be changed, and it demands the King execute judgment, as it accuses us of transgression: John 5:45. The law is an adversary and an accuser. Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross

But God is merciful, and mercy rejoices against judgment: Matthew 5:7, James 2:13: it is mercy which "shuts the mouths of lions" through faith: 1 Peter 5:8, Hebrews 11:33

So what we have here in Daniel is an allegory (though literal in form, expressing a higher meaning) of law versus grace. The immutable law seeks to kill men, but the mercy of God "nails" the law to the cross, that grace through mercy which is by faith may triumph over the roaring lion of the law (which walked about in them under the law, they of the flesh, and the works of the flesh; seeking to devour them at liberty and carry them away back into bondage and cursing in the law; to destroy them at liberty): thus is the faith of God revealed in the salvation of Daniel, who being accused of the law, was shown mercy by the grace of God:

Daniel 6:22-23 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
