  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hiya guys! I don't dance so I'm a little confused about something. I was recently contacted by a artistic director at an art studio who wants to coriograph (sp?) to a song I wrote on piano. I have NO idea what I'm getting into! When you dance to music, does the music have to be exactly the same each time or do you just sort of follow the song...? I can't play the song exacly the same each time so I'm a little paranoid  And does rhythm matter in dance? I mean like measures and 4/4 time and such? If so, how strictly do you have to follow it? I don't have a specific meter in the song either so now I'm really paranoid

Jeriel,
Congrats on having someone want to use your song!

To answer your question, it all depends on the type of song you have written. Is it in the style of a ballad, where a lyrical/worship style dance would be choreographed for one person, or is it a praise song that would be performed with several people?

In a more lyrical piece, it's possible that a good dancer would be able to flow with the music as long as it isn't drastically different. However, if the piece is going to be performed by more than one person, they need consistency to develop a good dance.

Thanks for a reply! Any advice I can get helps right now. There's no lyrics to the song, it's strictly piano and I would have a hard time describing the style - someone suggested it sounded a little like a rondo? With the main theme being fast and slower parts in between. It has a dark sound to it most of the time. I would be the only person performing it (as a solo), or else they might use a CD I'm trying to cut. It sounded like fun so I'm really hoping it'll work out!
