  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Daniel 6:6-9 King James Version (KJV)
6 Then these presidents and princes assembled together to the king, and said thus unto him, King Darius, live for ever.

7 All the presidents of the kingdom, the governors, and the princes, the counsellors, and the captains, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a firm decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any God or man for thirty days, save of thee, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

8 Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it be not changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.

9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

Daniel 6:6-9 New English Translation (NET Bible)

6 So these supervisors and satraps came by collusion to the king and said to him, “O King Darius, live forever! 7 To all the supervisors of the kingdom, the prefects, satraps, counselors, and governors it seemed like a good idea for a royal edict to be issued and an interdict to be enforced. For the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human other than you, O king, should be thrown into a den of lions.8 Now let the king issue a written interdict so that it cannot be altered, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be changed. 9 So King Darius issued the written interdict.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

6 Darius was a favored king but sometimes winning favor causes us as people to develop things such as pride which causes us to lose favor with God and then sometimes with the people who favored us.

7 Daniel would have been against this but all of the other advisors to Darius were for this, this would mean that Darius would not only become a king to them but their god. The world always has desire to turn to worship anything or anyone rather then the Lord. To be throne into a den of lions is a sure death.

8 Mede and Persian law was that once the king decided something it happened which is why the time of 30 days is important because it is not a permanent decree, the king could not even change this law but it would have to be enforced once signed. They did this simply to remove Daniel.

9 So it is now law sometimes if law goes against us serving God then we are not required by God to not do the law.
