Daniel 4:4-9King James Version (KJV)
4 I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:
5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
7 Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
8 But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my God, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, saying,
9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.

Nebuchadnezzar Dreams of a Tree Chopped Down
4 (4:1) I, Nebuchadnezzar, was relaxing in my home, living luxuriously in my palace. 5 I saw a dream that frightened me badly. The things I imagined while lying on my bedthese visions of my mindwere terrifying me. 6 So I issued an order for all the wise men of Babylon to be brought before me so that they could make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 When the magicians, astrologers, wise men, and diviners entered, I recounted the dream for them. But they were unable to make known its interpretation to me. 8 Later Daniel entered (whose name is Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and in whom there is a spirit of the holy gods). I recounted the dream for him as well, 9 saying, Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, in whom I know there to be a spirit of the holy gods and whom no mystery baffles, consider my dream that I saw and set forth its interpretation!

4 It was common in times of peace for the king to relax. He at peace at home which showed everything in his kingdom was good at that time, running smoothly.
5 At this time dreams were seen as coming from God or the gods for those who accepted the ways of the world. Nightmares are not easy but to believe they mean something about what is happening or going to happen makes it more troubling.
6 These people were the experts in dreams. They knew many things that the world could teach them, they were wise by mens standards.
7 This shows that they truly tried to make the interpretation of the dream instead of just telling the king what he wanted to hear. The world may have answers but they will run out of them and let without answers. These men did not trust God but relied on themselves and other things for the interpretation so they were not able to answer the dream.
8-9 This is written from the kings perspective. The king respected Daniel and his God the true God but consider Him just one of the many gods there were not seeing truly who He was and He still is today. Those of the world may come to us and ask us pray for them or seek out understanding from God for them even though they do not accept God their selves, this is what Daniel dealt with.
