  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Daniel 3:13-15

KJV(i) 13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? 15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
Daniel 3:13-15

New English Translation (NET)

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in a fit of rage demanded that they bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego before him. So they brought them before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you don’t serve my gods and that you don’t pay homage to the golden statue that I erected? 15 Now if you are ready, when ...you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must bow down and pay homage to the statue that I had made. If you don’t pay homage to it, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. Now, who is that god who can rescue you from my power?”

13 Nebuchadnezzar was upset because no one disobeys the king. We may be forced by following God’s laws to disobey man’s laws. In many countries today it is illegal to carry a bible but the bible is the word and very important they choose to carry the bible would be what God wants even though it may make men angry.

14 We should not serve the things of this world but serve God. There are many that try to balance the world and God but if God isn’t first than He is not your Lord.

15 They were forced to choose God or their life. God has the power to get us out of anything He allows us to get thru, this does not mean that He will. Many apostles and people since died in the name of Christ.

Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?” (Daniel 3:13-15 NKJV)

The question I have always wondered about was where is Daniel? Probably away on business is the explanation most commentators come up with. God sent his prophets to several Pharaohs, Nebuchadnezzar, Cyrus king of Persia and various other historical figures. The overall message here is the Most High is Sovereign and rules in the affairs of men, as Nebuchadnezzar eventually finds out.

Which leads to another question, who was that fourth person in fiery furnace? Sure, the easy answer is that Christ is making an Old Testament manifestation but the text never says who it is.

Grace and peace,
Mark

I think the people who convinced the king to do this would have known Daniel would be against it so hey would have had him go away.

Of course that's not how the would say it to him. Someone walks up to him and says 'Daniel, I have a great idea...' next thing he knows he's back and his three friends are telling him the story.
