Are you looking at the right week? I'm not sure how it's defined in the OSB, but this week would be the week of the Sunday after the Universal Exhaltation of the Holy Cross. That's a little confusing. Next week in the 1st Sunday of Luke - so that should put it back on track. This year was a bit of an oddity because the Exhaltation fell on a Sunday, making celebration last for 3 weeks, versus the normal 2.

How do you know what to read?

I have a calender that I look to to see what the daily readings are, but the problem is, that I have three different calenders that each have different readings assigned to the day. I'm a bit confused.

There are some slight differences in the daily (and occasionally Sunday) readings in the Greek and Slavic traditions. I've also found the OSB lectionary to be a bit off, but its nothing serious. The important thing is that you are reading:)

The OSB is based off of the Antiochian lectionary, isn't it? Wouldn't that be consistent with the Greek usage?

The only other thought is that OFTEN a reading is assigned because of a particular saint or feast, and this "overrides" what would otherwise be on that day.

That and the Lukan jump is coming up. Things get crazy around this time in the lectionary.

so what would the consensus be on what should be read daily ?
and if its a calender were do I get one. Email is not really for me it takes me out of the prayerful mindset. this is kind of a disappointment to be honest Because I was excited by the thought of all the Christians studying and meditating on the same chunk of scripture daily. oh well
thanks with Love in Christ

I use the one I got from St. Herman's Monastery. It's very nice since it lists all the Saints and Elders who are not yet canonized (which is really nice for me since I do venerate a lot of Elders who aren't yet canonized) but it is based off the old calender.

Dear GWBTC,

(Is that "George W Bush, Texas Christian" or what? Just kidding!) Just read the Bible, large chunks of it daily. I have a link to the GOARCH reading schedule on my website, but I also have another daily Bible reading plan there (www.agape-biblia.org/index-en) that shows you how to read thru the OT once and the NT twice each year. Now that I'm becoming Orthodox, maybe I should add the "deuterocanonical" books of the OT to this Bible reading plan....

I was taught that the bible study is the minimum you should do each day. You can of course read more if you like. The purpose of reading as we do is to tell the story of Christ in one year. There is a reason for the order. Just remember sometimes the new calendar and the old calendar just don't work well together.

Hi GWBTC,

Oops! I forgot to add the ".htm" to the Bible readings link that I posted. Here's the corrected link: www.agape-biblia.org/index-en.htm -- try that one.

BTW, my cousin George W. Bush wouldn't have been such a "bad" president if the Muslim terrorists hadn't wrecked our economy with 9/11 and the aftermath of the costs of homeland security. The Bill Clinton's and Barney Frank's socialist engineering scheme of guaranteeing mortgages for "low income" and "minorities" (read: deadbeats, bankrupt people, drunkards, welfare mommas, adulterers, fornicators, homosexuals and lesbians - all those people with unstable relationships and risky lifestyles) thru Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac back in 1999. The economy was going great then, and they thought - "Nothing to fear, the coming generation can pay if the gov't has to bail out Fannie and Freddie." I have website links to the old newspaper articles to back this up. Well, we didn't have to wait for the next generation, 9/11 is all it took. Now the God-fearing, moral, tax-paying portion of the U.S. population is being forced to pay for the deadbeats, adulterers, etc.

Yeah, GWB is my distant cousin, 12 generations ago: we're both descended from the same white slave, Edward Doty, who belonged to one of the Pilgrims that came over on the Mayflower. The Pilgrims decided enroute that there shouldn't be slavery in the New World so they freed their slaves, and my ancestor became a Pilgrim. His first son married the daughter of one of the Pilgrims from Holland, and from that line came the Bush family (plus lots of other famous, not-so-famous and even infamous people too).

Trust GoArch's website. I read some reviews on the OSB that pointed out that there were some problems with the OSB lectionary. I think particularly of the review written by Archimandrite Ephrem. It's important to realize the OSB is good, but it's not errorless(is that a word?) and it should not replace your Spiritual Father's guidence in reading the Scriptures.
