  6. We are no longer allowing posts or threads that deny the existence of Covid-19. Members have lost loved ones to this virus and are grieving. As a Christian site, we do not need to add to the pain of the loss by allowing posts that deny the existence of the virus that killed their loved one. Future post denying the Covid-19 existence, calling it a hoax, will be addressed via the warning system.

If this ultimately succeeds America will surely be more united than ever.

Once it passes through the senate, what are the ramifications of this move?

It will not impact the Presidential races, as DC already has 3 electoral votes. However, it it ever passes, DC will automatically gain 2 Senate seats, as there is no logical way for a Republican to carry DC.

Hello @Handmaid for Jesus, this is an excerpt for the Post's article that you posited for us.

H.R. 51 would shrink the federal district to a two-square-mile enclave, including federal buildings such as the Capitol and the White House. The rest of the residential and commercial areas would become the State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth, to honor abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
I have no problem with this (the cordoning off of a 2 square mile Federal enclave), but the rest of
    D. C.'s (non-Federal) land needs to be returned to the States that ceded it to us in the first place, Maryland and Virginia.

The only reason not to has to do with additional control of the Senate (in particular), because that itsy-bitsy piece of land (with its medium city-sized population) would add two more Democrats to the Senate (as well more Democrats to the House, of course). This would give the people of our new "State" (a State with the population of about 750,000 people .. in 2019) the same Federal influence/power over us that our present 50 (state-sized) States have.

I do not believe that America will survive as a "democracy" w/o choice, which is what it will become as a one-party country. The balance that a true, two-party(+) system affords us (where we, the people, continue to have a real choice when we vote) is extremely important, as it keeps the power hungry from BOTH sides of the aisle in Washington in check. Permanent, single-party rule, no matter which party ends up grabbing the power, could quickly lead to a type of government that none of us want (well, the vast majority of us anyway), with the many being oppressed by the few.

    God bless you!

Hi Friend Of, take a look at my post above (post #8) as I have detailed some of the ramifications of D. C. becoming a "State" in that post.

    God bless you!

the itsy bitsy piece of land had more people living on it than the states of Wyoming, Vermont and Alaska

If they want to add a state, they should add Puerto Rico. Ceding Washington back to Maryland makes more practical sense if they are worried about under-representation.

But then the Democrats wouldn't get two permanent senators.
