• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I was just diagnosed last year and so far things have been pretty steady unless the Dr messes around with my medication at all.

Last week, I started to feel really down and there wasn't any apearant reason for it. The Dr thinks I am just going through a cycle. How long do these cycles last? I am about at my witt's end here. I have been thinking about suicide and have been really struggling with panic attacks. It is really hard taking care of the girls when I am like this.

Anyway, I appreciate your thoughts.

Dear DoulaLexi

This doesn't sound good to me at all. I believe a FAST second opinion is in order.

You should NOT have to go through this if your meds are right.

THROUGH ALL THE PAIN JUST KEEP REMEMBERING:

Well, I saw my nurse today and he said that we should wait another week before we start changing my medication around at all. He said he would talk to the Dr about getting some meds for anxiety. But when I called later to see if he had talked to her, he said he had forgotten. He would have to do it on Monday. Very frustrating.

Report this to the doc and tell him from now on you want to talk directly to HIM!!!

Let him know your in a life and death disease and it's not to be taken lightly.

Don't think I don't have compassion because I do, I want that fellow to be able to get his unemployment!!!

Lexi,
We do still go through cycles. The meds we take are not to heal the problem but rather make it easier to deal with the ups and downs. These cycles can last anywhere from a day to a couple weeks, depending on the stressors in our lives and how well we have learned to cope with the ups and downs.
But if you are having suicidial thoughts I would definetly let your Dr know or seek out a second opinion because your meds may not be working for you. Sometimes meds can stop working or they just miss the right combination of meds.
The main thing is be up front with your Dr and counselors. Let them know what is going on or they can't properly address the problem. I also can't stress enough how important the counselling is...I have been in counselling for 3 years and it has taken me this long to find new ways of dealing with the ups and downs and stressors in my life. I know it doesn't take everyone as long as me but many stop counselling way to soon. And end up relasping.
My prayers are with you and I hope this helps to answer some of your questions. God Bless You and EVERYONE!!!...Rush

Well, I am still struggling. Not really with suicide anymore. But with tiredness, feeling overwhelmed and just sadness. I talked to the nurse again today and he said he would talk to the Dr and get back to me by 10:30 this morning and he didn't call back. HE IS SO FRUSTRATING. I was only diagnosed a year ago and prior to this, I had never gone through anything like this and now all of a sudden they are saying it is just a cycle. I know myself and I don't go through cycles. I wish there was something else I could do. But I have to wait until next Monday to see the Dr.

Any thoughts?

ugh! Isn't health care in any of our country's fun! Do pay attention to your stressors and keep your routine as much as possible during this time. Do let your dr know about the issues with the nurse in his office when you see him. Do not hesitate to call back before next Monday if suicidality of any sort becomes an issue again. Meanwhile focusing on the promises of God, He is there for you despite any feelings. Look for the little blessings in each day and say Thanks Dad (in heaven) and do the best you can, but do not let yourself slip tofar without bothering the dr again.

Blessings, Alive
