Anything that the culture you live in deems a perverse or filthy word. If it's not something you can say in a professional environment, it's most likely a cuss word. The Bible says to avoid foolish talk and jesting, which don't edify.Hi Family,

There is no explicit biblical standard. It is as NM said in post #2 "Anything that the culture you live in deems a perverse or filthy word." and as HT said in post #3: "Language considered profane."What biblically is a cus word?
LOL!!!!or example say I stubbed my toes and shouted out 'orange'
Good thing the Bible doesn't say, "Don't say 'cuss' and thou shalt be saved." Whew.Anyone who abbreviates "curse" as "cuss" should be sent straight to hell in my opinion.
Even reading those examples is hard for me because they are minced oaths and give me the same unease in my core as seeing blasphemyI think hatred spawns cussing. So in this sense even substitute cuss words are .... etc.
I believe all the made up substitutes that people say in anger. For example say I stubbed my toes and shouted out 'orange', to me that would also be cursing. I believe any word we say in that context is the same. Because the behaviour behind the phrase we used is cursing.
I might even go as far to say even sentances said in anger could go as far as to fall in that category.
Yh but I'm in the UK. We say swearing and rarely use the word c**s (I think it is swearing, if not it is unladylike to say) and curse seems to be used for a curse. However we have the phrase curse-words although it is a little archaic now. There is a difference between cursing, and cussing.
Cursing is to pronounce anathema on someone - a definite sin as we are to pray for those who are lost that they also might be saved.
Cussing is different, and that is vulgar language.. that is less of a sin I think, more it is something we don't want to do as ambassadors of Christ.

Googled it. It doesn't say it is 'vulgar' slang so maybe not swearing. Maybe I can use other synonyms like profanity, blasphemy to distinguish, or write curse-words in full. There is a difference between cursing, and cussing.

Ah - George Carlin is definitely missed.Bad language = the big 7 dirty words
If it's in the bible, it's not a curse word. If it's not in the bible and you aren't sure, try posting the word on CF. If when you post it, it comes up something like "[bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]", it's probably a curse word. If not, you're in the clear! Good luck!Hi Family,

Not so sure about that. The word A$$ is in the bible....yet i do not feel comfortable using it....and do not use it.....and i think some would consider being called one insulting...If it's in the bible, it's not a curse word. Ass? As in, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's ass? I don't find it vulgar at all. It might be insulting, but that's not cursing. Not so sure about that.
