Hello all you dieters/weight droppers. My name is Donna. I am a 24 year old married college student, and I wear a size 24.....so, I need to loose quite a bit of weight. I picked up a book about Curves in a discount store and read through the whole thing in 2 days. I feel that it might be a great way to get me motivated. My question is this, do any of you go to curves? And 2, I would like to do their home workout and not pay to go to their center, but to follow the diet plan, has anyone done this with success? Thanks everyone,

Donna

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that I've been going to Curves. I've been going for a few years now and I really enjoy it. Although I'm the only young adult, you get to meet a lot of old friendly ladies. Sometimes I don't use it as often as I used to because I like to go to other gyms as well, but you should really consider going if you would like to. I think its a great idea to work at home too, but only if you're really going to do it. Try and consider having someone else work out with you, because sometimes people just don't like to because by themselves and they tend to put it off. That's just how some people do it. But if you're going to, make sure you plan a time and do it every day at the same time as an actual routine.

I used to go to Curves!! In fact, I lost about 40 lbs going there (total of 70). I also did ediets.com at the same time.

When I started going I was at 220 (5'6"). I quit after two years because I wanted to up my cardiovascular endurance more so I joined the YMCA and lost another 30 lbs.

I now weigh 155.

Here's a before/after pictures.

I've been, I like it because it's quick, good for people who can't handle the boredom of treadmill for 20 minutes, stairmaster for 10, then the machines, etc., and because it's women-only. I gained a bit of weight in the couple months I've been there, but I lost centimeters, so I made some of the fat into muscle, which is what I wanted to do, not being incredibly overweight to start with, just out of shape. So I'm happy with it.

My mom and sis just joined about a month ago and they LOVE it! I am so happy for them because they both struggle with their weight and they seem to be really comfortable there. My sister is only 15 so a big gym would probably intimidate her so this is a good start, but I bet when they get more into it Curves may not be intense enough for them. I think its a good place to start and get acclimated to being in a gym, working out in front of people, and getting used to the machines and how they work, but I think at one point a person does have to up the level on intensity to how they work out.

I completely agree with you. It works for initial weight loss then you just need to challenge yourself more by getting more intense. You cant do that at curves. BUT what works about curves is the circuit training method. That is a VERY VERY effective way to lose weight. You can do that at the gym too...which is what i do once a week. :)

I was in a program kind of like Curves (Butterfly Life) and I got very bored very fast. I think it depends on what kind of motivation you are looking for and what kind of exercise you enjoy.

I am a manager at the Curves in our area. I think it's an excellent way to get in shape - we have a lot of helps and offer encouragement to women of all ages. You should see how many older women come in - daily!! They are in such good shape and they are so FLEXIBLE that it's unbelievable. Also, Curves offers a non-intimadating environment for women with issues that may make them uncomfortable in other gym settings.

I joined Curves because it was recommended to me by my physical therapist.

I used to go to places like Gold's gym and was not uncomfortable in those settings. I really like Curves, though. My only complaint is that they are not open as many hours as other gyms are.
