I have not posted here in quite a long time. The forum is really different and I changed my user name from when I first joined so I'm still getting familiar with things.
I home school my son who is now in 5th grade. I really need to up our Bible study and our approach to our religious studies. I'm hoping for some help.
So, this year I made a liturgical calendar that I have up in our homeschool room of the 12 major feast days. I'm moving a clip as we approach each feast day and discuss it a bit to give him background information. We've also began reading the Gospel reading for the day and discussing how it applies to our lives today. We pray the Our Father at the start of our Bible time and then we make a small prayer for the school day. This has been good for us for this year.
He did not want to attend the Sunday school class this year (and I was okay with it as something about his current teacher does not sit right with my spirit). Instead, he has chosen to participate in the Liturgy as an altar boy and he is learning a lot more than what he would have in the Sunday school classroom from what I have been able to gather.
I'm trying to think ahead for next year. I'd like to get a really good Bible for a "tween". Something that he will want to pick up and look at the pictures and read but that does not water down the Bible and present an incorrect perspective on it. Also, is there a curriculum we can use at home to learn about Christ from an Orthodox perspective at the middle school level?
