Diane_Windsor said:I can choose to be offended or not.
4jacks said:No you can not. Being offended is a Feeling... Like Being Sad or Being Happy.
You can choose what you do about it when you are offended, but you can not choose to be NOT offended.
Diane_Windsor said:Really? I think I can speak for myself Patrick.
4jacks said:If someone gives you a Chia Pet for Christmas, you can not Choose to be Happy. Your going feel ripped off and robbed. Your going feel like shoving that (hole in the ground)'ing Chia Pet down the throat of whoever gave it to you.
Yeah, I didn't get why it was offensive either. Especially since most had to look it up! Just comments from a latecomer...Diane_Windsor said:Perhaps you should ask your questions in the Men's Corner

I've heard of it! And here's some more history too. If you make the sign of the "horns" on your head, that's calling a man a cuckold. It doesn't mean anything in the US but I hear if you do it in Spain or Italy it's worse that "shooting the bird" by about a factor of ten. So now you know, and knowing's half the battle.llghoney said:We need a poll on how many people have actually heard of this word!!!

Not here it ain't! Just don't go flying to europe and "horning" anyone and you're good to go.Leanna said:And yet its not offensive
Oh well, be good all, I'm off to do something useful with my time

Case in point. The "thumbsup" sign that a lot of us find so neat can be very offensive in other cultures...don't remember which tho. And even showing the bottoms of one's feet is a grand insult in the middle east as any soldier can tell you. (I'm not a soldier, but lots have told me this. )
