  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not sure how I've never heard of this before, but I read last night that CS Lewis and TS Eliot were involved in a complete revision of the psalter in 1963. For some reason it never really gained traction in the CofE. I've trained to find a copy online, or even a copy for sale but haven't come up with anything. Does anyone here know where you can find a copy, as if CS Lewis has been involved with translating the psalms then I definitely want some of that!

I thought the new BCP 2019 (ACNA) had this version of the Psalter. Maybe someone can confirm?

Lewis helped with the Revised Psalter of 1964, but he resigned from ill-health during it, and died before it was completed. It did not really catch-on much, but you can still buy copies.

This is a link for it, though you probably need to pay for access. I wouldn't bother though, as not really having the Lewis flair, being the work of a committee, and Lewis having nothing to do with the final revision of the version.

Thanks you so much for the link and the information. I'll see if I know someone who has access to the journal.

The ACNA psalter is proprietary. It is technically called the New Coverdale Psalter and is meant to be a modest syntactical update of the Coverdale Psalter. I haven't looked at it close enough to see if they tinkered with the imprecatory Psalms.

I really don’t understand why the ACNA had to copyright their BCP. Every Episcopalian BCP has been released into the public domain.

The 1962 Canadian BCP unfortunately does modify them, which makes me sad; otherwise it would probably be my second favorite published BCP edition after the 1929 Scottish BCP and my third favorite overall after the 1928 Deposited Book.
