  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi,

You show wisdom in your desire to learn this. It is the most important and critical thing a believer can do. Unfortunately, most are not interested in the Cross.

For starters, know that your soul and flesh, as far as God is concerned, are one. Of course they are not the same, Body ... Soul... but with regard to the Christian walk, when the bible speaks of being carnal or fleshly, it is all activity of the soul of man. So, the soul must be crucified.

I have written a good post on this topic here. Read it:

http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=24728043#post24728043

and I cannot stress enough how important it is to get the book I listed in that post, "What is Man?" by T. Austin Sparks.

Get it.

I'll be happy to help you and point out the errors and deceptions which are mistaken for spirituality. Don't hesitate to ask me, either here or in private message.

Regards.

By being obident to the two commandments Christ gave.
Love God and Love all those around you. Love is defined in 1Cor13:4-7 by 12 manners--fruits--chacteristics of Love. God is Love, Christ is our example of Love, the Holy Spirit is Love dwelling within each of us. Walk in Love in all you do and you will overcome your flesh.

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH BeLed - Spark's "What is Man," is a GREAT read! You can order it @http://www.austin-sparks.net they offer his stuff for free & you can also read it there, if you so desire.

Crucifying your flesh is based in Love, placing someone else's needs about your own...it sounds pretty easy, but it's not always. Our flesh is totally set AGAINST the spirit!
God Bless you in your walk!

Dying to self and the old nature is a life-long process. We start at home, dealing with the old sin nature, reckoning it dead and God's Spirit alive within us. It takes time and we are encouraged by God to "grow in His grace" and overcoming with His provision of the blood of the lamb and His Holy Spirit's guidance. Also, we have the new nature that always works against the flesh inside our conscience....

Romans 7:15 - 8:1 I don’t understand myself at all, for I really want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate. I know perfectly well that what I am doing is wrong, and my bad conscience shows that I agree that the law is good. But I can’t help myself, because it is sin inside me that makes me do these evil things. I know I am rotten through and through so far as my old sinful nature is concerned. No matter which way I turn, I can’t make myself do right. I want to, but I can’t. When I want to do good, I don’t. And when I try not to do wrong, I do it anyway. But if I am doing what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing it; the sin within me is doing it. It seems to be a fact of life that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. I love God’s law with all my heart. But there is another law at work within me that is at war with my mind. This law wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin that is still within me. Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Galatians 5:16 So I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
17 The old sinful nature loves to do evil, which is just opposite from what the Holy Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are opposite from what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, and your choices are never free from this conflict.

2Pe 3:18 But grow in the special favor and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be all glory and honor, both now and forevermore. Amen.

Conquering our flesh with our spirit is possible the evidence is all around us. Look at those with disability who are confined to a wheelchair and yet they are happy and they Love and laugh. the child with cancer who is found laughing and playing and Loving as their flesh wastes away. those around us who can neither hear or speak and yet their smile speaks words of Love through their smile. our God given spirit is so much stronger than our flesh the evidence surround us if we will just open our eyes and see their smiles and open our ears and hear their laughter.

Millerrod AND Rafael, i've spent 15 years as a Christian and had no idea what i was supposed to do. my churches would tell me that i had to follow GOd, but i didn't know how. but BeLedByHisSpirit told me about this book "What Is Man?" by T. Austin-Sparks that says that we cannot conquer the flesh ourselves. God doesn't even give us the strength to. you must crucify the flesh and soul to Him everyday, submit it to Him through prayer, and He conquers it for you. we are completely helpless. if it was up to me i would be out of my mind or worse by now. but don't trust me. it says so in the Bible. BeLedByHisSpirit knows the exact verses. God promises that he will take care of you if you only trust him. God bless you both on your walk.

your sister in Christ,
Catalina
