  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Cross Dressing

I dress in men's clothing all the time
There is a difference between someone that dresses in compared to someone that dresses up. A lot of clothing today are unisex that could be worn by a man or a women. The problem is when a man tries to look like a women or a women tries to look like a man. Although 1 in 500 have an extra chromosome, so it may not be that easy of a issue to deal with for some people.

What is this "problem" you speak of?

In addition to dressing "in" men's clothes, sometimes I dress "up" as a man. I'll wear a chest binder, and this combined with my usual lack of makeup, short hair, and current wardrobe, it's easy to mistake me as a young man (which is sometimes my intention).

So, what's the "problem" in doing this? You are free to think it's weird, but I don't see any "problem".

I don't see a problem, especially when we're just talking about which piece of fabric you wrap around your body. :p

I personally don't see a problem going that far. It is one step farther in a wrong direction. When using the looking like what you are not is used to disadvantage or harm others. (Not saying you or most others who cross dress do this, but a small percentage do).

I'm afraid I can't follow any of that (specifically your third sentence, I can't tell what you are saying).

Could you please reword what you mean?

And how does a small percentage of cross dressers harm people by cross dressing?

NO WAY is cross dressing okay. Men are men and women are women. I already see enough guys starring at me in lingerie, I don't need them wearing it too.

Do you walk around in public wearing lingerie or what? I thought that was something that stayed in the house, but maybe I'm just not adventurous.

You said they looked at you in it, do you model lingerie in a store? (Serious question, because that's what you said?)

If someone is sniffing around you and you don't want them to, turn around and put them soundly in their place. That's creepy as heck and those people need their wits slapped out of them- no matter if they're men or women.

As for guys being in lingerie though... well, you don't have to enjoy that, but I find it quite nice :p (though I would not be interested in anyone who wanted to wear it in the general public, so I'm not sure how that'd be a bother).

Ya but guys shouldn't be palling around in women's clothing, that is too close to homosexuality and is against God. Cross dressing, even accounting for cultural standards, is rejecting your gender and trying to DESIGN another which God did not make you in and you were not born with so its actually rejecting God.

Never frankly got the whole "modern Western gender roles were designed by God" thing, honestly.

Does that mean I should be wary about wearing men's clothing? Or is it OK for a woman to dress like a man but wrong for a man to dress like a woman?

I didn't know dressing like a man when I am a woman or a woman when I am a man was rejecting anything at all.

Ehhh... Me personally, I wouldn't wear men's clothes.. I don't even like pants. But I guess if you wear a man's shirt and your not intending to dress like a man, your just wanting to wear what commfy then thats ok. But to actually try to disguise yourself or your gender (badly) to become the other then I thats way too much and is not ok.

This is something that effects me personally, I would like to know how anyone else feels about it!

I dress in men's clothing all the time, at home and at work. It is much cheaper, easier to shop fore (all the sizes are the same!), it's more comfortable for me, and men's pants actually have decent pockets. Oh, and they tend to last longr being washed constantly!

What are your thoughts on cross dressing- for practical reasons or otherwise? Would you interact differently with someone that you notice is cross dressing than someone who is wearing clothing tailored for their gender?

For all intents and purposes I'm referring to cross dressing in an appropriate manner. I had a few pictures of a man who liked to wear a dress in public who looked very stunning and smart, but I seem to have lost them. It was something that fit him, was appropriate for public wear, and was not worn as a joke. This is what I am talking about.

I don´t know there are mens´ clothes or womens´ clothes.
I do know there are fashions, though.
Nobody should be forced to follow these fashions.
But then again: if you are dressing unusually you better not be surprised about drawing attention on you.

Women can get away with wearing men's stuff, more than men can with women's clothing.

That said, some men get away with it. Priests and Bishops wear dresses. We just call them robes. ;)

How you dress, and who you are attracted to/ sleep with, are two totally different things. Being a tomboy and a lesbian are also different things. Some priest wear dresses, called robes. :p

God did make me or you female anyway. If you think God made you female, then you must think God has control over your genetic make up. If you think that, then God is directly responsible for inflicting horrible disease on people form birth.

One simply can't believe in a loving God, and a God that controls gender. There two are incompatible.

Besides just for comfort? (I assume you mean when I try to be convincing as a guy?)

I do it because I feel like I'm someone different. I feel like a character that I can make up, and be more interesting.

I do it because most people get extremely uncomfortable around a person if they can't immediately discern their gender by glancing at them :p (I like to mess with people!).

At the same time I kind of wish it was more controversial for a woman to go around in men's clothes, because I also do it for my friend (who is a man and very much likes to wear dresses). He's scared of expressing himself in public, and I want him to know that it's OK :( (He's got wonderful fashion sense, and just doesn't take well to men's clothes. Doesn't think they're very creative).

I feel so sexy if I wear certain guy clothes. So there is some good feeling to it too.

When I first put on a regular man's work shirt I felt a really big thrill about it, because to me it was breaking this huge taboo (whether or not I made it bigger in my mind, I don't know).

And there's nothing wrong with that to me :)

Haha yeah I just love the feeling of baggy clothes. It feels so free and the movement is great :3

And the pockets! They are amazing and can hold everything!

Plus with the shirts I'm not afraid to bend over and have my back show. Why are women's clothes designed to show skin every time you bend? They are so short :(

They also show your armpits a lot because the sleeves are cut at an angle on most shirts. What is the function of this?? I don't shave so that's kind of a deal-breaker for me.
