  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't feel confident about starting any crochet on my own as I don't think I would recognise a mistake if I made one ( I am sure I would get something wrong). I may try doing a practice piece to take to my friends when we go there in a few weeks. The trouble is I hardly know anyone who crochets these days.

It's just part of trial and error. I made the mistake of starting out on a blanket, instead of a smaller project. It doesn't look like the nicet thing in the world, but it works.

I haven't check in for a few days--been a bit busy.

Wed. nite I delivered 4 of 5 Easter egg doilies as well as the "INRI" square. All were well received and everyone was surprised by the gifts. I also took Carrie some lilacs from my backyard.

The wrist is fine - I finished a baby blanket (no real pattern, just picked something from the stitch guide and worked until it was the right size. I have started on Carrie's lavender baby blanket and a doily in #20 blue thread. I am still babying the wrist by using a glove and supporting my forearm on a pillow, but there is no pain or tired feeling. I am also changing my grip from time to time (from pencil to knife hold) which helps to not overwork the same muscles all the time.

Hope you all have a wonderfully joyeous Easter!

I crochet and knit. I also handspin when I get the time and desire. Right now I am workin on an odds and end blanket. I am not sure if I will have enough scraps to finish it though. I have made two full sized afghans so far for two friends for wedding presents. I also made some lace of a pillow case for an other wedding present.

I have not read the whole thread that a lot of younger people don't do handicrafts, but I do know quite a few people who have learned to knit lately.

CelticFlower, I'm glad you're wrist is feeling better.

Youth today just aren't interested in handcrafts. They'd prefer professional made, over priced, mass produced, store bought things, as opposed to hand made, personalized, one of a kind quality.

Celticflower, okay, now get back to work! ;) Just kidding, glad your wrist is improving.

I tried blocking the square. It looked great and I was thrilled . . . until I picked it up and shook it out. :( It went back to be poofy.

I'm going to post some new pics in my crochet projects thread if anybody would like to see.

AARRGGGHHHH!!1 Why do I keep picking up yarn with a mind of its own? Or is Somebody sending me messages thu the yarn?

First was the prayer shawl yarn yarn that didn't want to be the regular pattern. Turned out lovely in a striped pattern that matched the decor of the receipient's bedroom and was just her style.

Then, that baby blanket I was making for my cousin and his wife's first. A rather work intensive Aran pattern. the yarn just wouldn't do it and it was looking horrid. Tore it out, found a simpler, but lovely pattern. got it a third done and heard that she lost the baby  . Finished the blanket and will send it to Project Linus--was someone telling me not to put so much work into a blanket for a baby that would not be born?

And now the blanket for Carrie's baby. She likes surprises, so is not finding out the sex until the baby is born. She wanted a very pale blanket for this baby (baby #1, a boy, got green). So I picked a fairly unisex pattern and began working. Annnd, you guessed it, the yarn doesn't want to be that pattern:doh: . So, back to the pattern stash and what screams at me to be made? A very pretty blanket of filet hearts--very lacy, very girlie. So, I'm wondering to myself, do I give her the blanket before the baby is born? Or do I wait until the child arrives--just in case?

Gee, this thread has been quiet for a while--are we all busily crocheting??

I finished the blanket for my friend Carrie, but I haven't given it to her yet. There is some rumbling about a shower for her so I guess I will hang on to it for a while.

I also made another Christmas afghan - a round ripple called "Star Dreamer" in lime, blue and black for my daughter's friend. I finished up a doily in #20 sky blue thread as well.

Currently I am working on a rose colored afghan called "Sweet Heart Wrap" (another Christmas gift) and a thread filet mat called "Horse Farm" for my daughter (it is a mare and a foal's head). I hope to frame it for her. It is for Christmas as well, unless I get it done in time for her birthday in July and DH talks me into giving it then.

I won 3 Decorative Crochet Mags on Ebay that I am anxiously waiting for. Would LOVE to find a bunch of these at a good price.

Yes, it has been quiet, hasn't it?

I just haven't been crocheting much. I've been so busy but also because I wanted so much to make the pineapple suite afghan and since it didn't turn out right I just can't seem to get into anything else.

Sorry to hear about the afghan. Any ideas on what went wrong?
