  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Celticflower, do you remember posting a link to a web site recently that displayed a crocheters projects and I asked if it was your site? I loved the pineapple suite afghan on her site. She provided a link to the pattern. It didn't take me to the exact pattern but to e-pattern central. I did a search for it and came up with one pattern. I couldn't tell for sure if it was the same one because their picture was so small. I'm sure that the price was $6.00 when I first checked and didn't want to pay that if it wasn't actually the pattern I wanted.

I checked again today and the price was 99¢ so I decided to take the risk. It is in fact the one I wanted. I believe that hers was burgandy and cream. The pattern calls for cream. I want to do one color cream and I may go with burgandy or hunter green, maybe navy. I'm not sure yet but I can't wait to get started on it.

Problem is - I have several works in progress and feel guilty about starting something new. :sigh:

BarbaraJean--
To be honest, I have posted so many links to so many people recently I forget who saw what. But I thought it was the Celtwich site you thought was mine. Either way, I'm glad you found the pattern you wanted.

Finished both the kitty doily and the INRI piece. I'm happy with both of them.

I- Jesus (Iesus)
N- Nazareth
R-Rex (king)
I- Jews

It is from the sign the Romans put at the top of the cross. In the Roman alphabet the "J" and the "I" are the same.

You can see the pattern here>>> http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/abbeydale/183/inri-samplersquare.htm >>>>

Note that the picture is done in yarn as a sampler square. I did mine in thread, filet style. All I changed from the graph was to add a solid border on the edges.

Ah! I knew that it seemed familiar.

I want to get the ladies of my church who crochet to make a granny square and give it to me. I will stictch each square together to make an afghan. The afghan will then be auctioned as a fund raiser. I'd like to have a warm and friendly name for the afghan. I've thought of:
Heart of Family Afghan
Pieces of Our Heart Afghan

What do you all think? Or do you have a suggestion?

:sigh: I'm having to take a few days off from my hooks. A busy month of crocheting has left me with an aching wrist. I think it is just muscle fatigue or maybe tendonitis, but the location and type of pain don't seem to be carpel tunnel (Thank goodness!).

So what does a crocheter who can't crochet do?? This one is printing off LOTS of vintage thread patterns, planning about a year's worth of projects (at a much slower pace than the past month), ordering yarn for Christmas gifts and trying to organize what I have--yarn and patternwise-- so I can find it when I need it.

I figure I'll let the hooks lay until Monday and then see what happens. Hopefully the rest will be all my poor wrist needs :D

Too frustrating for me. I get lost in the pattern--if I have to put it down for a moment I can't figure out where I stopped so I can begin again. If I make a mistake and try to unknit it it fix it--I make it worse. Usually I end up ripping the whole thing out and using the yarn to crochet something -- but I can't do that for a few days can I

I feel for you. How frustrating for you. I hope you wrist heals soon. Can you cross stitch? or maybe you should just have a complete rest at the moment. I am sure you must have plenty of patterns to look at? Do you read at all? I have to confess I am a book worm but I am really looking forward to a few days with friends in Wales because my friend is trying to teach me how to crochet. What patience.!! :holy:

Celticflower, I started the Pineapple Suite afghan.

The pattern is for twelve 18 inch squares. I decided to make one square to see how difficult it would be before buying the yarn. The square was very easy. I have a problem though. It's poofy.

It doesn't lay flat. Is that normal for a large square? Will it flatten once the squares are slip stitched together?

The square looks perfect. I mean that the pineapple looks exactly like the picture. It just doesn't lay flat.

Hmmmm--did you try blocking it? That may solve the poof. You could also try making a few more square from scrap yarn to see if putting them together would help. to be honest, I've never had a problem with squares, but I've had doilies that would "cup" until they got to a certain size or were blocked. Let me know how it turns out.

Wrist update. Well, it still feels fatigued, but I plan to try working with a hook tomorrow. I will wrap the wrist for a few days while I work. I've had this problem before.

and I too am a bit of a book worm. I finished re-reading the last 1/4 of "the Agony and the Ecstasy" and have started an Orson Scott novel on Sarah.

I've had my wrists achin before, but only when I'm doing a big project, which isn't very often due to my short attention span. I do enjoy crocheting very much, and knitting too...I used to hate knitting but I made myself get used to it. If anybody knows where I can unique patterns (for crocheting or knitting) I'd love to know about it. :)
