  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Okay. Here's an idea--if you find a thread item you really want, let me know and I'll make it <g> . Of course I would have to charge you..........

Here's an alternate idea--if you find a small simple doily you like, make it up using macrame cord and whatever hook works best with it. You'll have a pretty, washable porch doily (rug)! Also a doily done in worsted weight cotton makes a pretty dishcloth or make 2 and sew them together for a hotpad.

Macrame was a popular craft in the 70's involving braiding and tie knots in cord (usually jute or hemp) often adding beads to create wall hangings, flowerpot holders and jewelry. It has recently begun to be seen again, but the cord now is 6mm acrylic or rayon in many colors. someone in the crochet world decided to try it and found that it makes washable durable rugs for outdoor/porch/deck/entry use.

Did you know you can also crochet with fabric? A few years back, I made some rugs with fabric by crocheting them together. You cut the fabric in 1 or 2" widths, there's a special way you can connect them without sewing or knotting, but sewing would be better than a knot. Anyhow you use a huge hook, in the states it's a Q or even a P, just a tad smaller (for the 1" width) and you can crochet a rug. I made several using scrap fabrics or just buying cheap fabric that didn't matter really so long as they were all had the same washability. That was my fad for 1995... haha... I've even seen patterns for making baskets, chair pads and all kinds of things using strips of fabric crocheted. The only thing I really remember the difficulty of it, was that it was very hard on the wrists and hands.

Ladies you really are showing your age :p in 1995 I was only 13 and hadn't started doing crafts yet - my craft fad has started in the last year or so but REALLY got crazed over the last few month... so fun :)

Yeah, and now that you say you were 13 back then..... I feel old... :p And when I think about it, I've been crocheting about as long as you are old, or longer.... I was in elementary school when I first started, didn't do it as much as I have in the past 10 years.... but started my crafty era back before you were born there beetlequeendiva. :p
