  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That is seen here all the time. Most things have been compromised till there is really nothing left of Christianity. One can be orthodox here awhile not accepting at least the full Protestant canon of the Bible. One can be orthodox here and say Jesus could have sinned. It fast becoming just another fairy tale.

There's quite a huge list of verses, mostly from the teachings of Christ in the Four Gospels that many Christians routinely ignore and rarely/never preached in churches anymore.

They are quick to point out teachings of Paul over the teachings of Christ and dismiss the teachings of Jesus as non-literal because they are difficult to the flesh. Didn't Christ say the flesh counts for nothing?? (John 6:63) I think the religion's name should be named "Paulian" instead of "Christian".

Hey, there's a good example--dismissing Paul's epistles, which amount to a major segment of the New Testament, only because it was written by Paul (and we don't care for Paul, even if those books are part of the Word of God.).

Indeed, it is a shame that the teachings of the Bible are being twisted, and in some cases, forgotten.

It is also a shame that there are some who don't see the message in this video as constituting Christian Advice: http://www.christianforums.com/t7812973/

This is the reason why the more educated unbelievers remain unconvinced of Christianity:

Paul's Contradictions of Jesus

Have you ever debated such thing against unbelievers? It's so humiliating!:(

If you're humiliated or not, I don't know. But to argue that accepting the whole of the Bible as revelation is "creeping compromise" is just weird. REJECTING parts of Scripture amounts to the "creeping compromise" this thread supposedly is addressing--not accepting it as God's word and believing it!

The so-called contradictions are not what they appear to be. A close reading of the writings of Paul (in context), will show that he did not teach anything that is contrary to what Jesus taught.

People come to such false conclusions about Paul's writings because they do not know how to rightly divide the Word of Truth. In other words, they don't know how to interpret Scripture correctly.

Taking up a course on Biblical Exegesis (something every believer should do) will not only help a believer to learn how to study the Bible aright, but also equip him or her with knowledge to deal with such false accusations.

I heard the same advice dozens of times already. I need something more concrete.

A most interesting thing to point, if there's any teaching that seem to contradict most of the teachings of Jesus, why it seemed to have consistently come from Paul? Why not from the other apostles? Why not from St John who wrote the Revelations?

The teachings of Jesus only is also backed by real life facts and is scientific in many respects with great consistency. But many of Paul's teachings could not be backed by facts, and requires more of "blind faith". How could that be? How could Jesus seem to use the logic of science but with Paul not?

It's one of the reasons Christians are heavily criticized by the scientific community.

The teaching of Jesus for example on "self-denial" or austerity is beginning to be recognized by the scientific community to be the only way to live a sustainable, tension-free, peaceful existence on Earth.

Paul did not take that teaching seriously, but instead only asked the rich to be generous, not to deny themselves by living in austerity and giving what they have to the poor.

It could go both ways - what if the scriptures is already compromised.

The historical authenticity of the Bible can be forgivable - no one can be sure 100% how historical events unfolded unless they had a time machine or is thousands of years old. Even secular historical writings can be unreliable.

But contradictions within the scriptures, if they exist is a big issue.

It actually stops some people from getting to know Jesus!

Would you take a ride in an airplane were one of the three engines is pointing in the opposite direction?
