Hello,

I doubt I will get an answer to this, as the people its directed too, don't appear to visit this forum much, and I can't post in the other forum, but I thought I would ask anyway.

In the new creationists only forum, more than one person said that Hovind was "down to earth." Even though they admited that he has some odd conspiracy theories.

He has wild conspiracy theories, from Museums murdering people to get fake evolution skeletons to AIDS and Parkinson's being government created diseases for population control to 666 being in every barcode. He has been caught lying many times and even takes the bible out of context.

How is any of this down to earth?
What makes someone down to earth?

I can answer that, having listened to Hovind enough.

He tends to drop in a lot of anecdotes while he lectures or debates. Usually these are about places he's been or people he's talked to. Sometimes he'll throw in stories about his family and so on. Basically, he's trying to win over the audience by making him sound like a regular, decent person. Which is precisely why he prefers the oral debating format in the first place.

And as those creationists have proven, it works. Because after all, it ain't about the science.

Sticking their heads in the Creation Science forum.

But in regards to the OP, if Hovind's "down to earth", then the rest of us must be one with the earth.

Continuing this thought, if Hovind's down to Earth, then I'd be surprised if any of us are above the Gutenberg Discontinuity!

But more seriously, had LynneClomina posted her "defense" of Hovind's statements here, she would have been taken to task for various statements like these:
notice the first words here? "My take"....it's his opinion, and he very often states "this is what i believe, i dont know" etc often. he is entitle to have opinions!

again, what's the context? he's just saying it seems weirdly coincidental, and he is allowed to have his own opinions.

what's wrong with that? if a 4 legged animal is going to evolve wings out of two of its legs, they will be pretty unusable for a few millenia, no? unless one subscribes to that theory where God made evolution do some quick jumps from one to another real quick.... i find that takes more faith than believing Genesis.

light IS variable. they've done it in labs. this is feeding off peoples ignorance of that fact to try to make hovind look like a fool. sad.
But anyway, it's clear that anyone reading that would feel obligated to correct her. But what happens in the creationist forum?
"Pretty cool, Lynne!"

"go lynne. also hovind answers his critics on that geocities cite. that guy is a liar."

"Hovind is definitely a controversial person. I like him for his down-to-earth approach and simple explanations. He does have alot of conspiracy theories and I don't believe some of his theology. however he is enjoyable to watch and does make you think."
Frankly, I don't think that any commentary from me or others here could possibly improve our case against creationists. All we need do is quote them for everyone to see. Hmm...do you suppose that the next thing the creationists will demand is to have their forum hidden from non-creationists?

Let's continue quoting creationists! Karl thoughtfully pointed the creationists to visit his own response to LynneClomina's post. LynneClomina's response?
ahh. sounds like alot of defamation and slander to me. lovely.
And let us not forget adam149's delightful statement!
Besides, the site you link to has been thoroughly rebutted by Hovind on his radio program, and he has responded to the arguments on the over 1000 anti-Hovind websites. Do not trust sceptics. They rarely have anything intelligent to say, and that site (which I'm familiar with) is no exception. (emphasis mine)
You know, I think we've stumbled upon the reason for which creationists demanded their own forum.

What? No gasp of surprise?
