Doesn't the Person of Jesus, His teachings, His miracles, His love compel you to at least "give Him a try" ?? After all, that's essentially what Christianity is all about - JESUS, JESUS, JESUS !!!

Please do not presume that because I am an atheist now that I have never been a believer. I was a Christian for most of my life. Trust me when I say that gave it more than a "try".

I've read the bible, and I can safely say, that kind of behavior isn't promoted in it by either god or jesus. It is indeed sad.

I don't know what they propose because I never pay attention to them. I am a conservative Christian and I don't give either of those guys 5 minutes of my day. I don't like them or dislike them, I simply have not made them a part of my life because I have to work in the real world. I don't line my closet with tinfoil to keep out the secret alien radio waves, I don't place newspaper clippings on my walls about the shooter on the grassy knoll, but I do go to work and eat at McDonald's during lunch.

I am the regular conservative Christian who earns income, pays taxes and votes. And the simple fact of the matter is that I don't have the time or inclination to put you in a concentration camp. Trust me, I would rather spend my time in Hawaii or Lake Tahoe than nailing barbed wire to a fence post.

Poor answer. What scares me is not that YOU would do it. But that you would probably stand idly by and watch it happen.

Sorry, but I live in the real world as well. No tinfoil, no clippings, no grassy knoll. History is an especially interesting hobby to me . I have two full bookcases of various history books. I know what can happen.

Because the fanatics among the christians just can't stand the thought that there are some who disagree with them and try everything, including (some of) the most idiotic lies and myths I've ever been confronted with, to force their views and their interpretation of the bible upon others.
(Makes one wonder... if the bible is truly the word of a god, why does it need support by lies to win? Just a wee little bit of paradoxical, no?)

I doubt that Creationists did anything to damage the image of Christ ever. For 1900 only Creationists were Christians and vice versa. Then Darwin made his theory and people started turning on the Bible. And look where it got us. World Wars, diseases, pain, and social discord.

Just to provide one single example to the contrary (out of so many that are possible), tell us when the Black Plague swept through Europe.

Inasmuch as the fanatics feel the need, for whatever reason, to constantly harrass others with their weird ideas and to not accept a polite "no thanks" as an answer, they'd better be prepared to face some negativity. Anyway, I am one of those who generally despise dishonesty.

If I were an atheist I wouldn't care a wit about what Christians did or taught in their churches. It sounds as though you have assigned yourself a mission to make everyone as smart and as honest as you. If I were to take a guess I would say that the source of your frustration is your personal expectation about how other people should think and act.

In a way, yes. I definitely want civilized people to show some respect for others unless they practically beg to be treated otherwise. Trying to shove nonsense down someone's throat doesn't exactly qualify one for the respect league, don't you think?

Take a vacation from Germany and get some sun on the Mediterranean for goodness sakes.

Actually, it was more some of hitler's underlings, especially himmler if memory serves. Yes, the nazis abused Asatru stuff just like they abused christianity (see "Deutsche Christen")... most notably of course the swastika (in Asatru, a symbol of Thor, God of thunder) and the Sowulo (the lightning-like "S" rune that appeared in the SS emblem).

As far as young earth creationism, it is seperate from true Christianity if not mutually exclusive.

Inasmuch as part of christianity is supposedly "Thou shalt not bear false witness", you're definitely right.

I know that this is a risky recommendation, but anyway... I suggest you read "mein kampf". Yes, you find many references to such ill-defined entities as the "eternal goddess of revenge" et cetera (and while I don't remember any right now, I'm sure he also wrote about the High Gods of the North), but at least as much references to "god the creator" et al... and hitler left little doubt in that accursed book about which god he was referring to.

I also feel that science is the best way we have of understanding the physical world; also that evolution is the process that explains how alllife developed.
I also feel that the wisdom that Jesus of Nazareth gave us is different to what happens in the churches.

To be honest, from my own personal experiences, i've only been scared by christians. The most memorable experience happened years ago, when I was back in high school, one day upon ariving to the campus there was a pack of "religious" people standing across the street protesting homosexuals. I have no idea why they were there, they were only there for that one day, but they were there holding signs that had such Jesus loving phrases as: "God hates (insert bad homosexual term here)", and "(insert bad homosexual term here)'s will rot in hell".

Needless to say, that one incident has forever changed my view of christians. To be honest, I know it's silly of me to judge all by what these few did, but then I came here and saw so much of that same ignorant anti-homosexual nonsense. In my mind, it has heightened the sterotype image of a "loving christian" image that has been burned into my mind on that day.

Im not homosexual, im straight. But to see such vile hatred coming from people who supposedly follow Christ, just make's me sick. To make the problem worse, I see nuts like Heidi(christianforums.net) and other select individuals who will not hesitate to say horrible things about other religions and their people. They will use the bible as their support, to use the good book to spread hatred is pathetic.
