Let's face it, the vast majority of the creationist movement is in the United States, so I think making the "un-American" statement is well justified.

So to the creationists, please, I'm begging you, please just show a little bit of modesty and give this fight up. You are doing no good by trying to push your particular brand of The Truth™. The United States has been a global leader in sciences and technologies for the past hundred years or so, and yet you want to take this country that has given so much to the world and turn it into a place that scorns innovation.

Yes you think you're doing good by trying to get creationism or "intelligent design" or whatever into classrooms, but you're not. By teaching this particular "controversy" you're doing nothing but hurting yourselves. You think evolutionary theory and biology are threatening to your religion, but the real problem is that you can't see the forest for the trees. If you are successful in getting creationism into classrooms you will do nothing but destroy any chances future generations of American children have in the global marketplace.

You think people losing low-paying jobs to immigrants is bad? Just wait until you have to start importing scientists and engineers because the natives are receiving an education sub-standard to the rest of the world.

You lot have your own quaint little view of the world, how you think it was created, but the fact of the matter is that world view does not pay the bills; it doesn't create the medicine; it doesn't help the economy; it doesn't do anything but feed your own hubris. So for the good of the other 60% of the population and the rest of the world at large, just swallow your pride and go with whatever actually works (hint: it's not creationism)

epic thread is epic

Seconded.

Not only are you crippling physics by diverting a significant fraction of the already pitiful funds allocated to experimental physics to your war coffers, you're turning science education into a popularity contest.

Leads to the dark side that path does.

Wait... Weren't you insinuating to me not so long ago that most of the US wasn't "Christian" because of all the problems it has (particularly in the Bible Belt).

Hmmm...

So this country you claim to love, you'd like to see it destroyed because can't swallow your pride for the greater good? Creationists are a minority, there's no doubt about it. There's no reason creationism should be taught with evolution. What you do by attempting to introduce creationism completely undermines the science education in the United States, which means that countries who do not subscribe to the creationist ideology will gain an advantage in not only biotech, but probably most other fields relating to sciences as well.

It's already happening, yes, the United States isn't exactly THE BEST when it comes to math or science, I'm sure a few asian countries are beating North America in that regard, but if you are a patriotic American you will understand why America needs science.

If you believe creationism should be taught in classrooms you are patently un-American. There's no question about it. If you think creationism should be in biology classes you are putting your minority beliefs ahead of the good of the United States of America, and that in itself is unpatriotic.

One word can show, with ease, the inestimable harm that the establishment of creationism can do to America's economy.

Pharmacogenomics. The studying of the genome and genetic variation to discover new medicines. What affects genetic variation? You guessed it. Evolution. How big of an industry is pharmacology? I dunno exactly, but in multiple billion dollar range. So please, I wish you success in your efforts to get science replaced by religion. We'll be buying all our drugs from India shortly thereafter.

Actually, that's probably a good idea. They'd probably be cheaper then. Hmmm. Too bad the inflation caused by the collapse of our nations industrial base wouldn't let us afford even that.

Or you could wake up from your delusional stupor and embrace reality.

When I "wake up," it's not going to be because a [Art] Bell rang, it's going to be because a trumpet blew.

While evolution has serious validity, science has never been able to discount creationism at all. The creationist ideals brought forth by the three main religions of Christinaity, Judaism and Islam may be in doubt, but not creationism at all. To say that your intellect is superior and that I'm hindering science by adhering to the fact that there is a creator, is arrogant.

I fully support and believe in evolution, and fully support and believe that someone or something created all living things in the beginning.

It's not up to us to prove there is no creator. It's up to those who make the assertion to provide the evidence.

As an aside, if, unlikely though it is, I end up at the gates of heaven with God demanding to know why I didn't believe, I think I'll have to quote Bertrand Russell in saying "Not enough evidence, God. Not enough evidence."

Your post is redundant, since you're using another definition of the word "creationist" than the OPer is. Most people around these parts would describe your beliefs as theistic evolution, not creationism.

The OPer is talking about those creationists that want their religion taught as science, and want valid science, like the theory of evolution, thrown in the bin.

Peter :)
