I agree with transientlife. And by the way, the people on the "Evolution vs Creation" forum might know a bit more than us on this subject, but I do not mean to redirect you to anywhere.
This doesn't have to be an 'evolution' versus 'creation' thread though. As far as i'm concerned, it'd be more interesting to see any evidence for a claim either pro or contra young earth theory. So i'd like to stick to the 'WHEN' instead of 'HOW'.

I postulate that the Universe is about twenty-three years old.
I'll see your postulation and raise you a rumination that says the universe is only 5 seconds old and all your memories are frauds created by God.

The most accurate measure of the of the age of the universe:

Just as a map of the Earth can be shown as an oval, the results from NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (or the WMAP) can show the whole universe...It can show color differences in temperture just a few millionths of a degree in a microwave "heat echo" of the 'big bang.' They have provided snap shot images of the universe when it ws just 380,000 years old and have allowed astronomers to calculate its current age to be 13.7 billion years old, with an uncertainity of only 1%.

Theyre not....
Creationism: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creationism
United States:

In the United States, creationism remains popular among non-scientists. According to several evolution polls over the last decade, 60-65% of Americans believe that "God created man pretty much in his present form at one time within the last 10,000 years." About 10% believe that the evolution of species occurred without any divine intervention. The latter figure is higher among the upper class, Internet users and among college graduates, higher still among scientists (about 55% believe that evolution occurred without God over millions of years according to a 1997 Gallup poll [1]

(http://www.religioustolerance.org/ev_publi.htm)), and higher still among biologists and geologists. These data have remained relatively stable over time.

In 1987, Newsweek reported: "By one count there are some 700 scientists with respectable academic credentials (out of a total of 480,000 U.S. earth and life scientists) who give credence to creation science, the general theory that complex life forms did not evolve but appeared 'abruptly.'". A 2000 poll by People for the American Way examined the question of popular support for evolution and creationism in schools, and showed that a majority of 83% supported the teaching of the theory of evolution [2] (http://www.pfaw.org/pfaw/general/default.aspx?oid=1903).

Outside the United States:

The United States fundamentalist Christian community has no real parallels (in terms of numbers, prominence, and political influence) elsewhere in the Western world (aside from possibly Canada), and because most vocal creationists are from the United States, it is generally assumed that creationist views are not as common elsewhere. Statistics are not clear on the issue.

According to a PBS documentary on evolution, Australian creationists claimed that "five percent of the Australian population now believe that Earth is thousands, rather than billions, of years old." The documentary further states that "Australia is a particular stronghold of the creationist movement". Taking these claims at face value, "young-earth" creationism is very much a minority position in Western countries other than the USA.

In Europe, creationism is a less well defined phenomenon, and regular polls are not available; however, the option of teaching creationism in school has not yet been seriously considered in any Western European country. In Roman Catholic-majority countries, papal acceptance of evolution as worthy of study has essentially ended debate on the matter for many people. Nevertheless, creationist groups such as the German Studiengemeinschaft Wort und Wissen [3] (http://www.wort-und-wissen.de/) are actively lobbying there as well. In the United Kingdom the Emmanuel Schools Foundation (previously the Vardy Foundation), which owns two colleges in the north of England and plans to open several more, teaches that creationism and evolution are equally valid "faith positions".

...

Creation science has been criticized by many mainstream scientists for making fundamental scientific errors and misstatements in its assertions. For instance, some creation scientists claim that evolution violates the second law of thermodynamics, but mainstream scientists see no contradiction. Consequently most mainstream scientists regard creation science as, at best, a pseudoscience.
It appears your creationist position does not have much credibility. Do you have some new revelation that gives your "no theyre not" assertion any weight whatsoever? What evidence do you have to show they are not older than 6000 years?

Ok, factor the bible out, why the hell would ANYONE think the Earth was 6,000 years old?! Ok, now factor the bible in, read it, understand why it's a far cry to trust anything it says, carry on with your life.
Actually, i'm going to claim that the universe is just 5 minutes old, and that everything was created in it's current form, including the illusion of your memories that you've been around for quite a while.

I know this has been asked to death, but, if there was no God, would there be a reason to invent one?
Proabably for the same reason we invented things like dracula, warewolfs, or have this idea of life on outer limits like aliens....the world would be boring without an imagination of possibilities...some are just taken way to far.
