How many of you actually think the universe is about 6000 years old?

I'd like to know what dinosaurs walked on then, if they're millions of years old and the earth is only 6000.

I don't know how old the earth is, nor does the whole ordeal really matter to me, as long as it exists right now and I can stand on it.

I agree with transientlife. And by the way, the people on the "Evolution vs Creation" forum might know a bit more than us on this subject, but I do not mean to redirect you to anywhere.

This doesn't have to be an 'evolution' versus 'creation' thread though. As far as i'm concerned, it'd be more interesting to see any evidence for a claim either pro or contra young earth theory. So i'd like to stick to the 'WHEN' instead of 'HOW'.

The most accurate measure of the of the age of the universe:


Just as a map of the Earth can be shown as an oval, the results from NASA's Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (or the WMAP) can show the whole universe...It can show color differences in temperture just a few millionths of a degree in a microwave "heat echo" of the 'big bang.' They have provided snap shot images of the universe when it ws just 380,000 years old and have allowed astronomers to calculate its current age to be 13.7 billion years old, with an uncertainity of only 1%.

They teach evolution and finding the half-life of a fossil in school, and they also teach about religion and its effects in school(history and social studies). There could be a lack of balance here.

It all seems like a farse to me, the world is 6,000 years old, jesus was born of a virgin, you're going to a magical shining city in the sky when you die. I know this has been asked to death, but, if there was no God, would there be a reason to invent one?

Creation science has been criticized by many mainstream scientists for making fundamental scientific errors and misstatements in its assertions. For instance, some creation scientists claim that evolution violates the second law of thermodynamics, but mainstream scientists see no contradiction. Consequently most mainstream scientists regard creation science as, at best, a pseudoscience.

It appears your creationist position does not have much credibility. Do you have some new revelation that gives your "no theyre not" assertion any weight whatsoever? What evidence do you have to show they are not older than 6000 years?

Actually, i'm going to claim that the universe is just 5 minutes old, and that everything was created in it's current form, including the illusion of your memories that you've been around for quite a while.

Proabably for the same reason we invented things like dracula, warewolfs, or have this idea of life on outer limits like aliens....the world would be boring without an imagination of possibilities...some are just taken way to far.
