Maybe they should explain more ad write a book about how it really happened and how Jesus was wrong to acknowledge the flood and a real first man etc. They could tell us how they think that the spirit of the Almighty invaded a mud puddle for a while and oversaw benevolently, the rise of life...etc. Should make good reading. The very same. Of course; the story is foundational to the Christian faith. They do indeed, just like it says in the Creed, "Through Him all things were made."
So the 'faithful' folks in those denominations who used to think the bile was wrong and that there really was no Adam, but man evolved from worms and animals and etc are losing the faith somewhat? Cool. It's a close call whether the Episcopalians are even still Anglicans nor not. They have become just another wishywashy mainline Protestant denomination.
Jesus is in the creed and He made that clear, and that is the way we even know about jesus or creation. To pretend that the Scripture Jesus came to fulfil is expendable is a vile thing.Has anyone yet found where the Nicene creed says you have to believe the Bible generally - aside from the creed's very brief list of items?
I am saying that the Bible not in the creed. If some particular interpretation of the Bible is essential for being a Christian, then the creed is clearly incomplete.Jesus is in the creed and He made that clear, and that is the way we even know about jesus or creation. To pretend that the Scripture Jesus came to fulfil is expendable is a vile thing.
The creed is based on the bible, not the bible on some little creed.I am saying that the Bible not in the creed.
Of course it is incomplete. Yet some forums use it for people to agree to to be called a christian on that forum. Therefore the christians on that forum ought to agree. If some particular interpretation of the Bible is essential for being a Christian, then the creed is clearly incomplete.
No. The creed is not what makes us a believer in Jesus the creator. Being a believer is what saves us. To believe in Him we should know He is the God of Abraham and Jacob, and that He gave us Scripture. Jesus made that clear. That God created the world and stars and sun and man etc. Any other god or entity called jesus did not.So the creed does allow for Christians to view the Biblical creation story as mythical, along with the flood, etc... as many Christians do.
But clearly the creed says a Christian must view the divinity of Jesus as real.
The creed specifies the parts of the Bible that you must believe literally in order to be considered a Christian by other Christians (according to the council that devised it).The creed is based on the bible, not the bible on some little creed.
Expendable? You really have an exalted opinion of yourself--if your interpretation of scripture is wrong then scripture is expendable?
Great, and the parts there include Jesus creating all things! Period. The creed specifies the parts of the Bible that you must believe literally in order to be considered a Christian by other Christians (according to the council that devised it).
Its silent on exactly how the rest of the Bible must be interpreted in order to be considered a Christian.
Yes. And plenty of real Christians think that evolution was part of that, and consequently that certain aspects of Genesis need to be understood meaningfully rather than literally.Great, and the parts there include Jesus creating all things! Period.
Yes. And plenty of real Christians think that evolution was part of that,The thread is not an opinion poll for everyone that likes to wear a christian label for some reason.
The issue is whether the creed talks of Jesus creating, and whether popping out of some ape as a 'man' fits that bill or not.
God formed Adam from dust, not from an ape womb. Besides, Jesus affirmed Scripture was true, so you may not dismiss it, toss it out, or molest it's text. No one ever assumed that Adam was ape spawn or pond scum before science came along. There is no sane or biblical reason to do so, and no possibility to do so without rejecting what Jesus said about Scripture, that it was true. Why not, if God is doing it?
And you can quote Him saying that, can you?what Jesus said about Scripture, that it was true.
Why would I want to make a Bible case out of it?Now if you want to make a bible case for your absurd claims, I double dare you to.
Jesus Christ on the Infallibility of ScriptureAnd you can quote Him saying that, can you?
You can't. Evilution of man is OUT for bible believers. (as for what they call 'christians' on this forum I couldn't care less what they say or think)Why would I want to make a Bible case out of it?
Bingo."Now my question is to Christians and mods who are Christians and mods in training, etc. How can you preach evolution here and claim you are following this little creed?"
I think you summed it up the purpose of the thread nicely.
If I picked the creed the forums use to verify one is christian, I would. Dp you think folks should agree that Jesus created all things and then turn around and say He did that by having man born out of some animal womb? The creed is little; God is not.
