  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Creation or Evolution? How do we know which is true?

Both sides have provided evidence(s) to support their claims. If our lives depend on the truth, then how do we know which is true? What questions should people ask to help find out the truth for themselves?

I think an important question, is whether you believe in what you see and what is physically apparent, or if you believe in what divine scripture states, or if you believe in both.

And you have to ask yourself if you will believe in concepts described in divine scripture, over what is physically apparent, or if you put what is physically apparent over what is stated in divine scripture.

For example, in Genesis, Eve is described to have been formed from the rib bone of Adam.

Do you believe that a rib can't make a human being because such a thing has never been seen? Do you believe that scripture is truthful, despite the fact that we haven't seen a rib turn into a human? Or do you believe in some sort of explanation that fits both viewpoints?

Then just try to be consistent with your thoughts.

Both are true.
Each describes reality from a different perspective.
God is Spirit.

I see lots of debate over creationism vs. evolution. Does it matter? Is it a salvation issue? I certainly don't think so.

I personally believe that man evolved from lower creatures, that God guided that evolution and that at some point God gave man an eternal soul. Others are free to disagree.

More to the point, who should they ask. Who has the answers?

Without actually happening that way the metaphor would be impossible.

Luckily, noone's life depends on this. So you can be agnostic regarding it, without any problems.

If you accept the Nicene Creed, if you live in repentance and good deeds, you will be OK for eternity.

no the evidence is the same facts. What determines whether one believes either account are the presuppositions one brings to the bible.

if one believes the bible is the word of God then what ever account agrees with the bible is the truth.

If however one believes that the bible only contains the word of God as interpreted by men, then one is free to believe what one likes.

Keep asking questions. See which one can provide more affirmative answers. In most cases, evolution only provides models rather than answers.

Think backwards, if evolution were true, what problem would it make to your theology? There ARE lots lots of problems.

I would disagree with you--I see evolution as providing far more answers, and it creates no problems for my theology.

Again, it isn't a salvation issue so it doesn't matter.

What problems? Except that some verses would not be read as literal scientific history.

It DOES matter even it is not a Salvation issue. You do not want to be poor in the Heaven for a forever long time.

Many many problems. Depends on which version of evolution you believe. For example, why didn't God save us at the Pliocene time? (you may not see how serious this question is).

Care to show me exactly where Scripture says that anyone will be “poor in Heaven for a forever long time” if they don’t believe in a literal 7-day creation story?

Somewhere in the Gospel Books when Jesus says the person will be saved even his house is burnt.

Well, that's for the OP to decide. He asked a question regarding what questions he himself should ask. He did not ask us to answer.
